Does Gervais think he is too big for Panel shows? Page 7

Laughing out loud

Oh no, Frankie! Not every panel show, surely? Some of 'em, yes. But QI is brilliant.

I think in reality Tommy there are snippets of brilliance in all panel shows from individuals, and with a great presenter, even more. I'd just like to see less panel shows and more black comedy/dramedy/quality sitcoms/experimental comedy on telly.

Panel shows are cheap to produce, that's why there's a lot of them. Wrong criteria to populate the comedy element of channels in my view. Get the Marketing Dept out of Production for God's sake! Let's see more risk taking shows! :)

Yes, I know... what do I know? F**k all. :(

I hate panel shows. I particularly hate Alan f**king Davis. He acts like a kid, and he's about 43.

Agreed. Nothing funny about that guy. Dad's a Producer I guess.

What do you expect him (Alan Davies) to do on panel shows, discuss mortgage rates and pension plans?

Be funny? :)

I really like him (Alan Davies). His stand up is great as well.

How subjective comedy is! It's wonderful isn't it? :)

I think Ricky is excellent, and he does seem a very friendly, funny, rather charming sort of fellow off stage. He deserves every triumph that has come his way.

Likeable or not, he's a big success anyway. I hated The Office cringe humour but quite like Gervais as a performer and also Merchant. I liked some of the less cringier stuff in Extras. I don't care what Gervais is like in real life. I think you need to seperate out the man from the act. Alan Davies allegedly bites homeless people in real life as I recall, which I thought was really funny, but I still don't find his comedy persona that amusing.

Mainly due to the awesomeness of Jonathan Creek, the only thing which could make me dislike Alan Davies would be if he was found buggering kittens.

Don't you mean limpidity? :)

*searches net for kitten buggering pics and ...whahay finds... back later*

Sorry.

I read a quote where Ricky said he gets more enjoyment from watching shows like HIGNFY than being on them which is fair enough. No point in just being on a TV show just for the sake of it.

Since when has relevance been a criteria for posting on BSG? :P

Hello Mr Godot, how goes it old pal! :)

He's been doing stand up for about 20 years, hasn't he? Can anyone mention any of his funniest material? It must be good, if so many people are defending him.

I used to like his routine about the evil Wombles who went around throwing litter everywhere.

I really liked Alan when I was younger. JC is still brilliant.

I have this notion he did a lot of jokes about cats...

Ooh, I think he did actually.

What does Davies do now, apart from QI? He doesn't do stand-up anymore, does he? Haven't seen him acting in much either.

I have one of his stand up shows somewhere. Don't think I've ever watched it though. *scratches head*

There's a new Jonathan Creek episode this Christmas.

It's been quite a while since I've seen or heard of him doing any stand-up; probably the nineties. I'm sure he was very good, in a nice sort of way. I can't quite remember properly, but I imagine he was very whimsical.

Really?? I thought that had long since kicked the bucket. I remember really liking the first couple of series, but then going off it a bit.

Like Ross Noble, but far less mad and less risque. In fact, the major similarity is their hair. And that's quite a tenuous connection too. Probably a rather limited comparison.
