A slight tangent, but for anyone that saw his interview with Garry Shandler, was it staged as being really awkward? Or was it really just uncomfortable?

No it wasn't staged. If you have bought the excellent Not Just The Best Of Larry Sanders Show DVD there are extras where he uses the same interview style. I think when he senses someone isn't being genuine or upfront he starts pyscho-analysing them. The interview with Sharon Stone is just painful to watch.

See, I think it was staged, to an extent.
They're both gifted performers with a lot of comedy experience, and I think that as it went along, they both saw what the other was doing and saw how they could play off each other to get a funny result.
Kind of like a jazz band improvising. (That is the ponciest thing I have ever said)
Anyway, I don't think they wrote it beforehand or anything, but I certainly don't think it was all genuine awkwardness.

I met Gervais a couple of years back, my cousin was training him for a boxing match and I was up the gym every day, I must say that he is a very funny and very nice guy.
Oh I loved that show. Who was he beating up again? Wasn't it Anthea Turner's husband or something?
He looked much fitter than Ricky, but he still lost. Ha.
