What are you watching on TV? Page 2,292

As I've now watched every episode of every decent British sitcom ever made about a thousand times, I'm now reduced to barrel scraping to find something to watch

Today :

Phone Shop

Verdict:

Mehhhhhhhhhhhhh

Yeah - it's not great, is it?

Have you watched "Look Around You"? It was on iPlayer recently.

It's already on my list thanks!

Yay! It's probably my favourite comedy ever - I own both series on DVD and have listened to the commentaries. The making of the Computing episode during S2 was particularly funny as the empty shop they're filming in is located in Woolwich, London, SE18. I'm sure that Aaron can bear me out on this one, Woolwich is a bit of a shithole, even though it's got gated apartments, the DLR, a river bus and the Lizzy Line. Apparently Peter S saw a bloke weighing about forty stone banging on about trainers, which sounds about right.

Sounds decent 👍🙂

I like it (the comedy, not Woolwich town centre!)

Celebrity Big Brother. (no not really but members of my family put it on)
There's a big fat camp bloke that never wears britches, Fern cotton ruring (*Yorkshire slang) all the time.
And Louis Walsh looking like he's just got out of bed.
Enthralling stuff: Day 10, somebody has spilled coco pops all over the kitchen floor.

I watched a few episodes of that but soon became bored with it. I quite fancy Will Best too - my word, I hope that I don't become a danger to all of the menfolk aged 54 and younger around here!?

The screechy fat bloke from Ibiza Club Reps or similar shows is hugely annoying - his shiny pink sausage legs just vex me. I used to quite like Fern but yeah, she's a moaner? Do you think that it's because her second husband ran off with one of her mates? Louis Walsh is a little bitch. That autistic gay guy is dull and I reckon his book is as boring AF. Who else is still in? I was recording it on my Virgin box (which I'm getting rid of as soon as my contact ends) but I've unplugged that since I had a smart meter fitted.

I want the GC and her twin acolytes, Jedward to return. Say what you like about the huge orange Essex native, but she's bloody funny and it was a crying shame that itvBe didn't commission any further series of her 'Diva Forever' series as Angus Deayton's sarky voiceover really made it great. In my opinion anyway.

Lol, ruring mean crying up 'ere.
At least you know who some are. The word celebrity is stretched beyond recognition.
My wife said ' I make no wonder her husband buggered off.
GC (or as I refer to her FC) was only funny when she cracked the ice.

Ah! Thanks - I kept Googling the term but nothing much came up. Of course, the comedy connection with Fern is of course, her father Tony and his appearances in 'Don't Wait Up' and 'Robin's Nest'. I read her autobiography years ago and her first husband was married to someone else when she met him.

The GC was pretty funny in TOWIE; it was really rather good at the start but it's now S32 or similar and it's long had its day.

Ruring doesn't really have a correct spelling. It's a word from Scandinavia from when the Vikings invaded Yorkshire in A.D. 866
Their language merged with ours and to this day Yorkshire still has hundreds of unique words not spoken or understood elsewhere in the country.
ie; Doylem, ginnel, lig, thoil etc lol

Thank you, I thought that might be the case. I learned the word ginnel via Corrie - it's that alley thing behind a row of terraces isn't it? We have terraces down south, obviously(!?) but the term is never used down here. Ditto barm cake etc.

If I'm ever priced out of London I'll pack myself and my teen son up to the Newcastle area. This sounds weird but I could make it work; they're bound to call me "Cockney Jo" or suchlike, but I'll take that on the chin.

Well, I never knew "etcetera" and "lol" were old Scandinavian words - you learn summat new every day................

No, me neither! Mind you, language is always evolving. I'm partly Scandi, Swedish, via my maternal line. I have a very heavily armoured shopping trolley.

My husband didn't like Jasper Carrott but I do. It's where Punt and Dennis started on TV wasn't it? I know that they were on radio beforehand.
