Northern Soul night at the Proms! Magnificent!
(Does soul shuffle followed by back drop)

Taped that. When I was a very naughty teenager me and my mates use to get into Wigan Casino for the all nighters because we would get speed for the bouncers and they let us in as payment. We did a bit of dancing but mostly looked for girls but the scene was massive and the simple three beat rhythms made the dancing loose and amazing to both watch and try.

Oh yes, speed was essential!

To be honest you could have made serious dough selling Wrigleys or for the real hardcore Beech Nut as everyone in there was chewing.

For a small town boy like me, Manchester's Twisted Wheel was the Mecca.
Speed and a spliff! Apart from alliterating, the perfect high.

I wish I had got the chance to go to Wigan Casino. I love the music and the scene and would have been there every weekend. I'm too heavy now but I used to be able to bust some good moves but I couldn't do all that spinning without falling over and I'm sure there were a few accidental kicks to the face back then. My scene was ecstasy and rave which isn't much different. Fast, uplifting music with drugs to keep going and a friendly vibe.

The film Northern Soul (2014) had some good acting like Josh Whitehouse as Matt but overall it felt like a wasted opportunity and it attracted criticism that it depicted too much violence and the scene wasn't as bad as that.

I was good at the spinning turn after much practice in front of the mirror. There were quite a few fights as some of the soul boys mutated into skinheads, which I steered well clear of.

Wigan Casino was crap

No poker, no roulette, no slot machines

Pffff

Watching Ardal O'Hanlan playing a very straight role in the Woman in the Wall. Hardly recognisable.

Zooo could be interested in Julian Barrett appearing in this.

Ooh, she is!
I didn't realise he was in it.

Just about to watch Pointless but has anyone watched the quiz that's on before? It's called The Finish Line and is really weird. They're in something looking like a cross between a chariot and a Dodgem Car.

Anyway it's worth catching the end of to see Sarah Greene.

I'd asked my son to download the 1967 Casino Royale and What's New Pussycat for a bit of 60s nostalgia, and just happened to notice that the Bond spoof is on ITV right now, so banged the digi-box on. 😎

They must have heard me talking about it

Yeah, I sometimes catch some of this depending when I get in. I laughed out loud the first time I saw a contestant start edging forward slowly in the chariot/dodgem! But I quite like it, and Sarah Greene and Roman Kemp (Martin's son) are both likeable as the hosts.
