Charlie Brooker's Weekly Wipe - Series 1 Page 6

It was all very good except for the Bruce Will bit when the "dopey" woman kept going on about Die Hard. It was like flogging a Findus Lasagne.

Agreed. She is terrible. I actually had to fast forward through that bit once I realized she would just be repeating the "explosions" thing about 10 times trying to be funny.

Actually, I really liked her this week. I still think they're "finding" her character and towards the end she started getting angry and swearing, which I thought was good and that's where I'd like to see her go each week and have Barry as the ignorant one.

I also liked their titles as "historian" :D

I really didn't enjoy this episode at all. The whole show feels like filler and old jokes.

Take Me Out has been on the air for years - commenting that it's degrading is not a new perspective to anyone. Bruce Willis was a bit pissy on The One Show? Anything to say about that or are you just letting us know? A woman left a comment online that was a bit rambling and another person said he'd shag Helen Mirren - so what? The same gay couple has done multiple TV interviews which shows that...? Richard the III buried in a carpark "but they didn't have carparks back then HAHA" - that joke is months old! "Flogging a dead Findus lasagne" might have been funny a week or so ago but everyone's already done that joke, too.

Where's the clever analysis? Where's the social commentary? Where's the scathing, biting satire? Where's everything that has made Charlie Brooker's previous shows a success?

Sadly I have to agree

Love Charlie , normally love this show and all his shows

This one seemed lazy and tedious

Almost switched off

Actually, I really liked her this week.

The initial "There's loads of explosions and killing" line was fine the first time, the irony was pretty obvious. I just didn't see any comic value in repeating it over and over again. It felt like a Stewart Lee bit but even more annoying.

It's my only real gripe with the show.

I missed the first couple of minutes, was Stanhope not on this week's episode?

Stanope.

Stanope.

Cheers Lee, I won't bother catching it on catch up then. I can just put previous episodes on repeat and pretend it's the latest episode.

I'd agree with the school of thought that this series feels a bit Brooker Lite. It's still funny, and has me smiling alot, but it feels quite mechanical at times.

Agreed.

His early work seemed to be informed by fury, now it feels like he's doing it for the paycheck.

He's probably too knackered to be angry any more, what with having a young kid....perhaps all his fury gets used up at home, as he shouts abuse at the little crying boy, who then giggles appreciatively and looks lovingly into his father's eyes.

Aww, look at his little face.
(Charlie, I mean.)

D'aw.
Nice pics, but imagine that being your job. Intruding on families and photographing their spawn without permission. Ugh.

Yeah, they're not bad photos for once. But what's the point? If anyone else took a photo of someone's kid, they'd be put on a register!

If that was your job I wouldn't imagine you'd earn much for a Brooker. A Huq would be worth a bit more, but not a lot.

A Huq "partying" with a Bacon would make a killing!

A Huq on a beach with a Chung - Kerching!
