Newsjack - Series 8 Page 3

Did anyone else get on the 'best of series 7'?

Yes, I got an email yesterday. As I only got one joke on the entire series I can only assume it's the one about the Royal Mail being allowed to leave your post with your neighbours causing alarm to the neighbours of Kelvin McKenzie concerned they would start getting lots of dog shit through their letter boxes.

That was a good one. I remember it and laughed at the time.

WElcome back Blenki. I didn't submit anything last series due to work overload but I always read this thread and I missed your frustrations. Wave

I have a plan Will. I've got a fancy new internet ID (bought it off a bloke in a pub in Camden for £500) and I'll sort that effing robot out if it's the last effing thing I effing well do!!!!

IGNORE ME!? IGNORE ME?! I MADE THE BBC!!!

We'll see who has the last laugh on this one. Oh yes!

As Dan said, very nice one-liner.

Hi, there!

Would anyone like 1 ticket for recording on Wed 13 Feb? Unfortunately I can't make it.

Cheers

Vivienne

I'm hopeful of getting something on this series. The first, and indeed only episode I've managed to get something on was the first episode of series four. My guess is that I'm only allowed to write for something every four series.

That's what they keep telling us they want: consistency.

Laughing out loud

The updated Submissions Rules and Writing Tips are up on their website now:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00kvs8r/features/submission-rules

Can't see anything that's changed too much from the last show. They've now listed the Intro (Pre-Sig) Sketch as a feature and made it even clearer they don't want bad taste stuff but other than that it seems to be similar to last series.

Did they explicitly say only one page of one-liners last series? It's good advice to only send that many anyway. (So write 24 or more one-liners and send 12...)

PS I also have somethin in the Best of Series 7. Glad to see so many others do too.

If you are sending in radio format and can get 12 one liners on a page good luck to you. This new rule is confusing if you ask me. I can only get about 6 to a page. It would be better to specify a maximum number of one-liners.

On the one-liners they did suggest only one page last series as well. Not sure it was in the guidelines so it may have been over twitter or in the Q&A.

And don't think you have to lay one-liners out in the radio format so could just put 12 of them in a standard .doc document. Although as Badge is the king of the NJ one-liners I'd listen to whatever he says ahead of me.

Maybe they're just trying to save paper.

Yup.

One type of sketch I've noticed added - The Diary of. They must like the ones they get to put it specifically in the brief.

At the risk of sounding irksome I can't stand Newsjack, the material is often bang on but the whole AM Dram middle class presentation annoys the shit out of me.
This format has been done to death since the 60's in every way possible.

I understand that current will always be current and people enjoy the news being lambasted or probed and mocked and as I said the material they are able to choose from is top notch.
But given their resources and wealth of contributions it feels old and tired and terribly up your arse BBC at it's most stuffiest.

And before you ask I have never sent them anything or been knocked back by them, its just comes across for me as a Footlight Rag Week Jolly F**king Hockey Stick set up.
