2012 was definitely a move in the right direction and lots better than the few preceding years..still lots of room for improvement though.

Not sure how the years been for Sootyj? I mean its been nice to get on a BBC development program and start making money from writing. But as the big 40 slides into view still feels like standing still and still would like more friends.
A highlight of my year was playing a DJ set at the Willow Festival in Peterborough back in July. One of the tracks I did was this self-assembled mash up of One Day Like This and Hey Jude and hearing it blasting out of a kickass PA was quite something.

Same on the friends part- I like people just never made friends very easily.
As for my year, I did something I never thought I'd be able to, but not as well as I'd like. Feel like everyone else is off having a life and not me.

I think you'd be surprised how many people feel the same as you.
Some bastard stole my backpack...so that gives my negative list more weight.

Yes, it's impossible to tell what people are feeling on the inside. I suspect the most fulfilled people are those who you wouldn't even notice, because they don't even need to try, and the most unfulfilled are those forever striving to fill their life up with stuff and activity, that is, the people who look like they're having most fun.

Beware Facebook gallaries. They can make it look as though everyone is living a life you yearn for, but in reality many will probably feel lost in the same way as you do.
Even looking at my own Facebook pics, it looks like I live a life of countless experiences, travel and fun, but I can state first-hand that this is not the case 90% of the time.
Oh God that is so true, the average person gets tagged at parties and on holiday and then this is the image the represent to their Facebook friends. But most nights you know they're just sat in their pants watching Family Fortunes whilst eating chips... the lucky bastards.
2012 was pretty shit! My dear old nan passed away, my dad died after years of fighting cancer and my wife's grandad died just before Christmas. 
But onwards and upwards!
By gum, that's a bad year by any standards.
