British Comedy Guide

Comedians required

I am searching for a couple of professional comedians to headline a comedy night I am putting on. I'm student at uni and have never done anything like this before, so my apologies if this is everso un-pc of me, or whathaveyou.

The show is on 7th Feb 2013 and will be in Exeter.

The show is for charity but I am willing to pay a fee out of my own small pocket.

Thank you everyone.

Hi essjaydub,

What sort of budget do you have?

Hi Tony,

My budget is limited as I will be paying myself. But I can forgo food for a few weeks... How much would I be looking at?

Thanks,

Sam

It all depends, you might be able to get a couple of local acts reasonably cheap, maybe even for expenses.

Otherwise you are probably looking at around £100+ to get any professional acts who'd have any kind of distance to travel.

Also worth bearing in mind that Thursday's, whilst not quite being the weekend, are often a busy night for comics, so you might be slightly limited in who's available.

Thanks for the advice.
Where do I go to 'get' a professional act? I've approached some agencies and they're quoting me £300+ for a 'newer act'...

Just to echo what Tony said really, you're probably better off choosing an alternative night Sunday through to Wednesday are generally quieter nights for professional comics so you may get bigger names for a smaller budget.

It's also worth looking at what acts are local to the area as they may be happy to do the gig if it's on their doorstep and it may be worth also saying what charity it's in aid of as well?

Also, in terms of acts you're better off going to the act direct if you can which isn't as hard as you might think. you can try looking for specific acts on www.comedycv.co.uk also, ask about in the chortle forums on www.chortle.co.uk or depending on the act you may be able to get in contact via facebook at least to get their email address. If you state what you're willing to pay, where the gig is and what you're expecting them to do in terms of set length then most acts will respond either to a yes they can do it for that or no they're not interested.

I hope this helps?

All the best,

Jason.

It might be worth contacting this guy, http://www.lukehonnoraty.com/ as he runs some lovely gigs in North Devon as well as being a good comic himself.

If you send him an email through his website, he can probably sort out a couple of local acts for you.

Tell him Tony Cowards says "hi" and that I'm available for 2013 bookings.

;)

I know a fantastic act in that area whom I imagine would be happy to help out. I can PM you a video if you want, essjaydub?
