Opening lines and 'your voice'

Hi, just wondering if any one has any advice on these matters as I sem to be struggling finding my voice on stage ans also I'm finding it hard to decide what type of joke to open with.

Any advice would be great, thanks

Well the voice is a mixture of your material and you yourself. So work out how you want to come over and how you feel comfortable speaking.
Don't try and be more than you are. I started out trying a mixture of anger and miserablism, problem is I come over as sort of avuncular and jolly so I cut my material to fit my coat.
Next don't just pile all of your most shocking and funniest gags. Find stuff that matches your stuff and fits together.

As for the first joke. Make it funny and if it can introduce you to the audience, let them know you're a good egg all the better.
