I am a great fan of David Frost. He appears to be a man who polarises opinion. Peter Cook said saving Frost from drowning was his one big regret. I find him fascinating, not only a major player in the satire boom but also a chat show host and political interrogator. His friendly style often getting results that Paxo could only dream of.
David Frost
More of a comedy instigator and ringleader than a performer. While I don't think you can understate his role in leading the satire boom, as well being pivotal in the formation of Monty Python and The Two Ronnies, he does come across as a bit of an insufferable tit in every book I've ever read.
Still, here he is in his prime from my shelf of obscure vinyl.
Before Cleese was famous
and after!
A rare example of Frost sharing the credits on anything
And this, well just because...
I think although he is insufferable, even Cook, Cleese etc seemed to have a fondness for him, he was like a ball of energy, forming LWT, flying between the US and here, his work rate was amazing. I know what you mean, but I can't help but liking him. As a performer I think he is underrated, his work on TW3 was very good, and he was one of the impersonated men of his time. His Frost/Nixon interviews broke every rule in the book, and were a huge gamble on his part. As you say he was huge mover in the satire boom as well as producing TV. At Last The 1948 Show, Two Ronnies, etc.
I've got all those albums except the one with Cleese, what does that contain?
I'm pretty sure the two albums have exactly the same track listing. I'll have a peek tonight.
There's also this of course:

Don't have that one, nice original Capitol album.
Yes, precisely the same listings. The Starline one is a reissue with extra added Cleese on the cover.
There are many anecdotes (or jokes if you like) about Frost. One I read today was that he was the sort of person you would feel comfortable about your daughter asking for a cup of money from. (Spike Mullins)
There's another one of about him owning a car with button controls. If you're driving along in the rain one button is to do the window up. The other button is to stop it raining...
