Why does anyone need religion? Page 5

I'm 66 year old separated man - go figure !

Check out what God did for Abraham....

This whole area is such a tired subject in stand up...

For me anyway...

Yeh beating up on religion is a bit of a cliche to be honest.

What, just the mention of religion in comedy?

Not the mention, just the bashing of it. So tired now.

True. But then I don't think that particular clip beats up on religion. It discredits its origin perhaps, but in a respectful way that brings a new angle to the conversation.

I'll keep a close eye on your sketch topics ;) But saying something like religion is cliche with the implication that comics should find a new subject is a bit daft. It's at the forefront of our lives everyday, east vs west, the sane vs the insane, Sooty vs Sweep.

Not really, it's theology 101 as found in most GCSE first lessons on religion.
Does the fellow go onto do a zinging show on prime numbers and the use of proper punctuation?

No Leevil what I mean is taking a broad sweep at religion in general is a cliche.
Actually centuries old.

Nope, but if he ever does I'll be sure to point you to it.

As far as I'm concerend it's the greatest bullshit story ever told.

However if, in my case, people want to congreagate at a place every Sunday to compare clothes and increase the churches cash pile even more - that's fine.

It'sfine with me as long as they don't try and share their religous views with me, because in my experience they never want to listen to mine in return.

The 'invisible policeman' (who no one person has ever seen)up there scares so many people into being 'religous'.

The 'sky cake' clip is about as accurate an explanation in lay person terms as to what the BS is all about...

Why? I find my poor punctuation too be a source of constant pain and embarassment.

I'd want someone far kinder and gentler.

Not mocking my sub GCSE level errors.

I'm presuming you're not separated from your penis though?

Or you could take the view that Chuck Norris describes himself as a "God fearing Christian"

so maybe respect the one man Chuck fears?

Yeah, I did say it was the bashing, not the mention that was tired, but yeah.

It's good it when it's actually insightful, but there is a difference between that and plain bashing. The bashing makes me yawn!

Yep.

The greatest ever sacrilegious comedian - Derek Nimmo :D

I just think the danger that if religions day is over, and I assuredly think that is the case.
Then I worry we may dancing and singing in victory so loudly we ignore what the new orthodoxies are and fail to challenge them adequately.
Pretending that as you are not religious you don't subscribe to a system of belief. Is like saying because you don't ride an oxcart you're not going anywhere.
nb the Tea Party Christianity and Islamist Islam are really far more political belief systems than religions.
