Herbert Lom dies

According to IMDb he was on screen for 67 years.

A staple of Sunday afternoon childhood. Like Alf Molina is, was a great all-purpose villian that could come from any country.

Some of my favourite Lom:

Gambit - as a sharp business pandering as an eccentric to foil Michael Caine's swinging sixties jewell heist.

Northwest Frontier - rip roaring pro-imperialist yarn in which he plays a Johnny Foreigner train passenger so dodgy, he is not only mixed race and a journalist but a Socialist and Muslim.

The Ladykillers - Ever ready to cut old ladies' throats.

He was wonderful as Inspector Dreyfus in the Pink Panther films, especially the one where he went mad. I used to like him in the 'Human Jungle' but that's going back a bit. I had an annual of that. Sadly missed and much underrated.

In A Shot in the Dark his twitching Dreyfus was more than a comedy match for Sellers' Clouseau. A great and underrated comic actor.

RIP.

He's one of those people you thought was already dead, so his real death is easier to take.

RIP. Legend.

Indeed.

I've used " ...develops a Herbert Lom-style twitch" as a stage direction for years now.
Let's hope people still know what it means in years to come.

Loved him in the Pink Panther films and as Louie in The Ladykillers RIP

I've just remembered he was Louis in 'Helldrivers' one of my favourite films.

He was always going mad. It started in A Shot in the Dark when he was revealed to be the murderer of Clouseau. He also tries again in Return of the Pink Panther. He is in asylum at the point of Pink Panther Strikes Again and again in Revenge of the Pink Panther.

RIP Herbert Lom.

Yea I really meant Strikes again where he tries to take over the world. I remember going to the flicks to watch that one and really enjoying it.

Laughing out loud I'm sure I've seen him play a Morrocan without being blacked up, that's how versatile he was. Like Paddy I thought he'd gone long ago too. Seen him play some great straight roles in thrillers and dramas but Louie the 'temperamental one' in Ladykillers is him at his best imo, watched it again recently and it's almost his film. The look of terror on his face when he realises he might finally have to be the one to do her in is a treat. Thanks Herbert Wave

He was great in The Pink Panther movies but I always think of him in The Dead Zone.

That's a long film.
