How many Marillion concert videos do you own, radiat10n?

Off the top of me 'ead, like:

Recital of the Script
Live from Loreley
From Stoke Row to Ipanema
Somewhere in London
Holidays in Zelande (3 Blu-ray set of 2011 conventions)
Clocks Already Ticking

Plus the fan-club only DVDs they've sent out as Christmas presents for the past 4 years.

Oh, and I don't own 'Live at Cadogan Hall' but I did see it on the big-screen at the fan-preview. Which was nice.

Seems like the right day to post a bit of Kurt:

Nirvana - Where Did You Sleep Last Night

Bought this today.

3 CDs and one DVD covering a great live gig.

Are The Stone Roses ever going to release new material? They've been back together for nearly two years. They can't surely have spent all that time just practising for their gigs.

Maybe they're petrified!

There must be a question about direction. When the second album finally arrived, it was partially a continuation of the first and partially a lot heavier in approach. The substantial delay and the lack of clarity on that album always seemed to underpin that strong sense of them not knowing what to do for the best.

Ian Browne managed to sidestep it all by going into psychedelic dance-orientated material. It proved to be an unexpected success. For as a mate who is a big fan of theirs admitted when he saw them live for the first time this year, Browne can't sing. Well, he can, but he would never win awards just for that voice.

For what it's worth, I attended gigs regularly with a wide range of other people in the 1980s. We liked a lot of the same things. But they had doubts then, tending to prefer the Happy Mondays, while I was a bit more for the Roses. Consequently, I had to take myself to Alexandra Palace, the first gig I had been to alone.

Caught up in the buzz of that time, I really loved it. Some of the frailties were obvious but I'll never forget the way the sound reverberated from the walls. It was crystalline, hypnotic, stylish and exceptionally atmospheric. I would love them to try for a similar sound on any third album to be recreated similarly live.

Radish, have you ever dj'd on the radio, or written music journalism, or got more directly involved in music? It seems to flow through your veins.

Not if he doesn't like constantly being on cocaine and making bad jokes.

No - but when the removal men moved my stuff to here in 2005 they asked me in all seriousness if I was a DJ because of all the CDs and vinyl they had to lug in. Actually, my collection is not all that extensive compared with many people. More of it is in my head. Music - and associated areas - have always been fundamental to me. A way of life more than a hobby. I give what I can give of it for the sake of giving as that gives me enjoyment but it has never been a part of any working life. I might PM you at some point.

Same here if for instance an electrician or something is working in my flat and sees the countless CD racks he must think I'm a DJ...or some scary weirdo.

I think it probably keeps it all more pure, staying on the outside. Thought about music as a *career* when I was at school, and even wrote to CBS, asking for a job. Saying I loved Dylan and the Clash in my letter probably counted against me. :)

I think Gary Crowley went dressed in his school uniform to interview the Clash. Most people at that age are already thinking more "systemically". I volunteered to be on the BBC Listeners' Panel in my late teens and was accepted. I probably thought I wanted to be Roger Scott professionally. But I think now there is a distinction between that notion and the reality of doing what people like him did. The connection I felt I had with presenters and their music is not necessarily the same as the connection that presenters sense. The audience is diverse. There are lives going on. If it isn't quite another day in the office, any feeling of magic must be difficult to maintain. That is quite a high price to pay. I've done things in a very different way.

Radio is also different now. In those days, you could walk up to a station if you were of that mind and talk your way in to quite a special place. Now stations are everywhere. They all work to the same narrow remit. And there is the formal application system in which you have to say what is wanted rather than what you feel. I might have liked that formality then. I don't think either approach would suit me now. But I would like to have my own radio station when I win the Lottery. I already know the presenters I will choose when it happens. In fact, I'd be at least as keen to be in charge of the schedule as I would in broadcasting myself.
