Following on from the "Game" thread I thought I'd educate you a bit on Radio Stars.

Lead singer Andy Ellison had been in John's Children with Marc Bolan, bassist Martin Gordon had been with Sparks and guitarist Andy MacLeod with Jet. They had a hit in 1977 with the brilliant Nervous Wreck but one song I love of theirs is Dirty Pictures.

I like it!

Yeah, ta!

They'd been around the block then.

Just watched the OGWT clip, curious to see them in the flesh.

Bob Harris in his swivel chair at the end. :D

Off to see the Blockheads, Mungo Jerry and Northsyde in a while. Just hope it doesn't piss down too much!

OK - Mungo Jerry weren't on until Sunday night.

I'm a bit of a supporter of Northsyde having seen their singer and guitarist husband and wife in various bands several times over the years.

They were brilliant doing mainly originals but covered Jessica, Whipping Post and Statesboro Blues.

Jules is just such a brilliant guitarist and Lorna has such a strong voice.

Must get to see them again.

And following on from my Radio Stars lesson here is Ellison and the unmistakable Bolan in John's Children.

Gregg Allman's final album will be released later this year. Am very looking forward to it.

Oh dear, Wet x 3 are splitting up after 30 years - it's a pity they didn't do it 29 years ago.

Some nice footage from Revolver of The Jam doing David Watts.

im rather liking this thread...

and seem to like a lot of stuff that folks are posting...well, except the spice girls, mel c is fit tho'..give her that

the damned, the cult, the jam.....all good stuff

in the last couple of months ive had some pleasant surprises...the big one, GNR reunion where they played for 3 hours...

then 3 little ones who should be big

Bad Touch out of Norfolk..... check out Half way home and Outlaw

Midnight Dogs out of Leicester..... Scars and Hands of fate get played loud in the automobile

Towers of London out of, err , London... they've matured, they sound better than ever and playing some of their new album
confirms it just may be a belter!....and i'm a rat is an immense proper tune

I was too f**ked up to appreciate it at the time but in retrospex 1996 was an awesome year for mucous. Suede's most accessible album to date, Oasis go ballistic, the Blur hype finally gets put in perspective, first full lengther from a New Orderer in three years (it's total and utter f**king shit but better than another rererererererererererelease), the Pistols pull off the unlikeliest reunion ever, the Beatles' mature years get properly ANTHOLOGIsed, and the Spice Girls bring fun, suss and sass back to the charts after dreary years of Radiocrud etc... I bet you never thought I'd say anything positive, and I'm not even joking.

A few picks from 2013-2017:

1. Brand new track from David Crosby who as well as still managing to stand has managed to produce something that sounds like Steely Dan.

2. A wonderful track from The Clear, a very underrated Sheffield, UK band that specialises in seventies style West Coast Americana.

3. Extraordinary "Porgy and Bess" treatment for the sort of Bob Dylan song that tends to be overlooked because it is from his "difficult 1980s period" . It's from the musical at the Old Vic in London, "Girl From the North Country" which uses Dylan's songs to depict the Great Depression in America.

4. Flyte. Blokes from London who do their own stuff as well as cover versions. The one I have picked out was originally by Jackson Browne. They have the Simon and Garfunkel harmonies down to a tee and need more recognition but as with The Clear it isn't the sort of music the industry is generally willing to promote.

5. And something of a curiosity - Men of North Country are from Northern Israel of all places and specialize in Northern Soul.

Thank you! Especially for the Steely Crosby song, although I love his work this one must have somehow flown under my radar...and for The Clear, I didn't know them.

:)

You are welcome Gordon. :)

Mostly new indie stuff which rarely gets played and wears its influences on its sleeve.

I'm not saying it is A+ but some of it is probably B+.

Plus a bit of new elevator music - I will leave the readers to decide which one; a song from the charming album by Nick Drakes's mother : it is possible to just about see where he got it from; safe sex advice from one of the few reggae bands from St Lucia; and bluesy-soul pop from a geezer who may or may not be the son of Theophilus p Wildebeeste:

Not sure if Mr Monkhouse was aware - and it was just on the radio but he could imagine it - the wonderful Mel C presented the Radio 2 show at 8 o'clock this morning.

My reputation precedes me. One of the proudest moments of my life was when someone came up to me and said, 'Hey - YOU'RE the guy that jerks off to Mel C, right?' He wasn't even related to me.
I recently cum across this old New Order interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4gdeAaZevts. They do well to take the piss out of the presenter as I'm sure their grasp of Dutch far outstrìps his English. Ain't we Brits abroad AWESOME? Guy makes an effort to communicate in English, remains as polite and friendly as possible, not only lets you publicise your ''''''''''work'''''''''' but even pays you for it - and you treat him like a dick! Steve is such a wanker - 'Aye, you can only get one note out of that,, that's all you can get out of it, just one note, all you can get out of it is one note, that's all you can get, just one note, you can only get one note out of it'. Dutch guy's more articulate than you.
