Should "they" be reading scripts in the Writers Room? Not unless they wrote them? They're reading to try and work out whether people should join the room, aren't they? Or am I reading too much into this?

Same difference. "Writers' Room" suggests a group to join, rather than a group which advises or promotes, at least to me. Unless they are a group on Facebook or Twitter and I'm not aware of it...
They're looking for writers with talent and potential, so that they can develop them, give them opportunities, advise them, all of that.

hi as anybody got word back from the bbc writers room? I got an email today saying my script didnt pass the the page 10 stage, is is just me who thinks a script can't be judged on the first ten pages and that the bbc writers room is a waste of time?

I think you can pretty well see if you've got anything worth reading after about 5 pages - so at 10 they're indulging you.

You asked a question - I gave an answer.
A practiced reader can tell if they've got something very quickly - whether that script is yours, mine or anyone else's.
(Whether they have good readers at the WritersRoom is another matter - I don't know.)
I personally think they're wasting their time because it's such an unfocused way to look for talent.
My comment about the stamp was entirely positive - it's cost you very little so what's to worry about?
As to not making it your sole point of attack, that's a piece of advice you can either take or leave.
It's not a waste of time. Send stuff in each time, something does come of it for some writers. It's certainly not hurting you, or taking any of your time really, to send in. So why not send in. You can get bitter that they didn't read your whole script, but maybe, if it keeps happening, you should look at making those first ten pages better. What isn't drawing the reader in.
