WHY CAN'T THEY LEAVE ANYTHING ALONE THESE DAYS.... http://uk.movies.yahoo.com/first-images-of-new-robocop.html
What have they done?
Roxy Music said it in 1972...Remake/Remodel. Warm up old ideas is cheaper/easier than to come up with new ones. And the successful Batman remake had a darker look and theme, and a bit more "realism"...that's what happens here I think, at least with the look of Robocop which looks a bit more Batman-ish.
It's called a 'pre-sold franchise' and it means that Hollywood would rather invest in something that has worked once already than risk something new.
It is artistic death and it will only stop when enough of them lose money.
It's all about the mental real estate, baby!

They don't have to bother with Star Wars, George Lucas already ruined his masterpiece with these idiotic prequels all by himself...at least artistically.
I for one will not be seeing this. I think its disgusting climbing on the back of such a top film. non of the original actors are in it not even for cameo parts.
the thing that grinds me the most is the fact that there are plenty of writers with new and original ideas but are shunned for remakes of classics.
remaking this is like remaking only fools and horses it won't work! and its a pg13 when the original is an 18. loved up TV cgi shite.

Not even curious? Although I must admit that pg13 thing turns me off as well. That doesn't make sense. It's like sleeping and living together with Cindy Crawford and then return living with your mother again.
Noooo! The original is one of my favourite films and is definitely one of the most cutting and satrical takes on modern society ever committed to screen. From the news reporters to the television adverts to the corporate shennigans, it pretty much shat on everyone and everything.
Hopefully, they'll get rid of all that subtle civilisation analogy stuff for more explosions. Woo.
its not going to be a patch on the original. if they are going to do anything why don't they team up with Stephen Spielberg and make gremlins 3.
with the back story of the old world war 2 geeza who is always rattling on about gremlins in everything..which he states in the first film that it was the gremlins that brought down his plane.
and the old Japanese guy who owns the shop with the gremlin in the box. questions need to be answered.
have these 2 met before during world war 2 to fight the gremlins?
where did the old geeza get that gremlin in the first place?
why is the old world war 2 geeza so convinced that gremlins brought his plane down.. etc etc

No, but it won't tarnish the original either. Like the Total Recall and Thing remakes it'll just get quietly forgotten.
Can't say as I was a fan of the original Robocop but yes, why the f--k can't they just leave old stuff alone?
I'm still furious about the Wicker Man remake. Now there's the bloody Sweeney. Well if I had my way they'd all be summoned to a remote Scottish island to investigate the disappearance of a young girl.
Just in time for May Day.
I can only think of one remake that was as good as or better than the original: the 1970s remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
They always have to 'update it', like with that atrocious 'facebook age' remake of the Taking of Pelham 123.
As Mellie said, it boils my piss, Tom.
Killing me won't make your apples grow.
I know it will!
The worst ever remake has to be 'The Avengers' with Ralph Fiennes and Uma Thurman. How these mere mortals hoped to replace Patrick MacNee and Diana Rigg is beyond me. As for Sean Connery dressed in a kilt hamming it down as a scottish super villain words cannot fully describe the excremental awfulness of it all.

Can't say as I saw it but I feel you tell the truth, Pingl.
Oh yeah, and what about that remake of Get Carter. Or was that just a bad dream?

No you did't dream it, it was total shite. Stallone didn't even have the decency to try a geordie accent. It had all the gritty realism of Noddy the Movie.

Lol, that would have greatly improved things.
