Hope It Rains

I've now watched both series of this early 90s sitcom. (Old VHS recordings.)
It's quite a good show. Not up there with Ever Decreasing Circles, Brush Strokes and The Good Life, but an interesting watch.

Has quite a melancholy feel. I thought Mulberry had a similar melancholy feel. I can see the point in it. But I'm wondering why they chose to go in the direction of things like Mulberry and Hope it Rains when it was unlikely they'd be as popular as The Good Life and so on.

Have you seen it?

I love Hope it Rains.

I discovered it when I was searching for other sitcoms written by Bob Larbey who wrote some of my favourite sitcoms. I watched the whole thing on YouTube because it's really not available anywhere else.

I wouldn't call Hope it Rains melancholy exactly -- though I think Mulberry certainly is -- but it has a particular look and feel that I think is unique and somehow charming.

I was delighted to find that one of the actors -- Holly Aird -- was in Waking the Dead but haven't seen much elsewhere of Tom Bell apart from Prime Suspect and nothing of Eamon Boland.

I really hope it's released on DVD.

No. did this show get any repeats on TV recently? Or is it available on DVD?

After Hope it Rains, Larbey did As Time Goes By, which is certainly more like The Good Life than Mulberry.

Nope, not so far available on DVD.

Per your suggestion on The Good Life thread, I have HOPE IT RAINS on my "to see" list. And, as you mentioned, YouTube may be my only source. Can't find any evidence of it being on a DVD. But, that's OK with me. I download the videos and watch them at my leisure. And I don't mind the low quality. I just keep it small and enjoy the content.

Will let you know. Thanks for the suggestion!!!

I look forward to hearing what you think. It's.... unusual but very charming.

Have watched it through several times and only regret there isn't more of it!

Perhaps someday we'll have a revival -- whatever happened to Jace and Dennis.
