The theme from Midnight Cowboy and You Only Live Twice , both by John Barry have a certain similarity.

Good spot.
It's actually the interval (musical) between the two repeated phrases that's the same.
Probably why they're two of my favourite film scores....

This is what I'm calling disgusting plagiarism. Changing tempo and arrangement to try to hide the blatant stealing of a melody line. This can't be a coincidence.

"Welcome Home"- Radical Face: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfbF44UeRBY

"Something In The Water" - Brooke Fraser: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uspv4o5sF_A

Someone had to post this link...

Jimi Hendrix with "Crosstown Traffic" (what a great song!!!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUwjyr17l0M

a swiss band called Züri West with their song "Traffik" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqMQmMAvM6k

The songtitle "Traffik" indicate that their song wasn't a rip off but more a hommage (what a fancy word!!!).

Be A Clown - Gene Kelly

Make 'Em Laugh - Donald O'Connor

Probably why they're two of my favourite film scores....

Both very fine pieces of music and despite said similarites have very different feel to each other.

As a boy I loooooooooved Queen...but the chorus of "Breakthru" sounded to me suspiciously similar to Don Henley's "Boys Of Summer".

"Breakthru" (1989): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjU-XVcbX_A

"Boys Of Summer" (1984): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=po75VoiMuvo

...but maybe I'm only fantasising.

Ooh, ooh, I just remembered one (two) that always drives me mad

Althea and Donna- Uptown Top Ranking (Sorry, has to be done: Tuuune!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMrNDnU6PPk

Lily Allen- Smile http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4OS3MsWEtw

All Gregg Alexander songs sound thhe same:

New Radicals - "You Get What You Give": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPAEFnVZVOs

Ronan Keating - "Life Is A Rollercoaster: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VsN5MtKtWcg

Rod Stewart - "Can't Deny It": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1Iedzd-yGs

but ok, he wrote these damn songs...so he's allowed to plagiarize himself.

Just remembered this one:

Original: (Hüsker Dü - "Beyond The Threshold") http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vaeR-7USY9U

Secret Sibling: (Pearl Jam - "Spin The Black Circle) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8v09-wlFiM

But funnily on the same Album (Zen Arcade) Hüsker Dü themselves copy a popular song:

Hüsker Dü - "Hare Krishna": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3iXCEhHdUM

The Strangeloves - "I Want candy" : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6Vw9RGm1tM
