Stand By Your Stoves!

New cookery sitcom; different characters every week.

Half hour on Granada TV, with host Lucca Cochio, ex- chef and presenter.

Arriving for recording are Julian and Craig, very nervous contestants.

Julian, 'Are you sure those avacados are ripe? I told you to squeeze them'

Craig, ' Yes, I've squeezed all your ingredients- nothing to worry about'

Julian, 'Love to see Luccas face when I show him my ripe rippled rosemary
Baskets!'

Feel this is wasting your time, sorry a silly idea, needs more work on bloody layout and stuff before I am confident. Huh?

It could work very well. I, personally, would have more than one static character (the presenter). As standard, Julian and Craig could be two camp cooks who are on every week and have to compete against new contestants each time. The comedy could come from their frustration when the contestants are better than them and come up with more amazing recipes. There could be some bitchiness throughout, especially when the presenter keeps showing the contestants more praise than them. I'm sure you've already realized the mileage that can be had from double-entendres here. The plays on words are endless too. "He's very tired...he's been squeezing my plums and stirring my yoghurt all night"

Well, you know...heh.

But, yes, it's a good idea.

I agree with Joyce. I read it and instantly thought of Julian and Craig as being outrageously camp a bit like Kevin Eldon's 'Fanny Thomas' on Knowing Me Knowing You with Alan Partridge.

There's an abundance of knob and fanny gags associated with cooking and kitchen utensils. If you wanted to go down that route of course.

You could also have these two as the main characters, follow them around in their lives and watch them react to different situations. Then you wouldn't be bogged down with making different situations in the same setting (a kitchen) all the time. You could follow them home, to the supermarket (to get ingredients), to their local pub...a great place to let other characters in. Other people's reaction to their behaviour would be a real pleasure.

:) Thank you, did have more written regarding other contestant Julie Titterington from Broadbottom.

Began to doubt that, yes 'camp' type humour was a bit old fashioned now?

Great idea Julian and Craig in other situations! My original was the cookery show, but with interesting guests, and odd celeb'.

I do appreciate your comments- don't feel as bad, but to 'lay it out' is rather difficult, or was that comprehensive?.

You shouldn't feel bad at all. At least your thinking and experimenting. Just let the ideas settle into your brain. You don't have to write everything down at once. I've left scripts for more than a year before I can come back to them. The more ideas you have before you start writing, the better the outcome will be. Unless, that is, you're a mega prolific writer who can pour excellence out by the ton, which I'm not.

Each of your episodes could conclude with the cook-off competition. The bulk of the time could be spent putting Julian and Craig anywhere they would cause havoc.

:) Thanks, lots to marinate and slowly casserole, indeed the finale was the 'cook-off' with Julians 'Coq-au-vin' minus the cock, due to Craig forgetting to de-frost same.

Be aware of Julian and Sandy from Round the Horne.

A different genre, and era but even so.

Surely "stand by your pan" is the more obvious pun or pan even?

Thanks , do like stand by your pan!, was mix of contestants/characters intended originally. Never listened to 'Julian and Sandy', no copy intended.

Lots to thinkabout thanks all! :)
