You hear a lot of people (well old folks) saying: 'Bring back the rod'.

Totally unaware that street thugs are used to stabbing and shooting each other. Like a few licks with the cane is going to bother them, it's nothing compared to the baseball bat beatings they get on the street. Plus it's over quickly and easily forgotten.

It would be like smacking a crazed pit bull trained for dog fighting with a rolled up newspaper.

Lock 'em up and throw away the key is the only reactionary dogma I can fall behind.

I stopped fancying her so much when she was cleared of murder. Is that wrong?

I wouldn't trust any governing body, and especially not the police to decide if someone should be put to death or not. They get it wrong as many times as they get it right. A civilised society does not simply take part in public acts of barbarism.
