British Comedy Guide

Feedback would be grand.

Just joined the BCD and would love feedback on a Comedy blog that I keep, I've been a bit lazy but trying to change that, all feedback welcome, as honest as you can be,http://newfashionedfun.tumblr.com/
Thanks,
Rory

I'm currently two thirds of the way through your blog and I think it's hilarious. It flows brilliantly and, because of that, could very easily be adapted for stand-up, if you're that way inclined. I'm off now to read the rest...because I know it will be just as entertaining as what I've already seen. I'm going to bookmark it too...and I NEVER bookmark blogs! So there you are...it's a yes from me!

PS: Just logged into Facebook after about five months. Just so you know...the sun is still shining, but it looks like it could cloud over later. Also, a lot of women are worried their washing might get wet if it suddenly starts raining. I'm afraid the stress of this news was far too much for me, as were all the (one) notifications that I was bombarded with...telling me I had a private message from my best friend (haven't seen her for a year) who said she'd be popping over later (four months ago). I guess I must have been out.

Thank you so much, it means a lot. I'm hoping to start doing some stand up but I figure for the moment I'll just write, as it takes much, much less effort, I'll try and keep up with the blog but I'm also one of the laziest people I've ever had the pleasure of being, is there any pointers you could think of,or suggestions for writing?

I think you're pretty much there with the blog...not too much swearing. I was worried it was going to be a shower of 'f**k this' and 'f**k that', but it was just enough to make it natural and not just swearing to get the laughs. Swearing isn't actually funny...it's the way it's used and some people just use it like they've learned a new word they think we'll be impressed by. I felt I could read it all and not get bored. It's always a problem...sharing your thoughts, whether real or invented. You have to make sure it's not too boring. Yours isn't. You're a good storyteller and that will get you by. Also, you can use all the words you need to explain your thoughts without making it too full and hard to follow.

One BIG positive for me was the fact you're not picking on anyone in particular, except Derren Brown a tiny bit, but not in a hugely critical way and it didn't grate with me. I'm not a fan of comedians who pick holes in individuals and use their bad luck or terrible appearance to get laughs. Yes, I know plenty of other people love this, but that's one big reason I like your blog. You're finding amusement in people and life in general. Resorting to spite can sometimes sour a routine. As I said, lots of people love that, but not me.

So, I'd carry on as you are and just keep getting better and better. You've got the humour and your observations are very, very funny. Just keep at it and don't be lazy...and definitely don't buy a puppy. They seriously waste your life away and stop you working. <sits on sofa stroking new puppy>

that's an excelent blog, it mixes a dry wit with having something to say.

So what do you intend to do with it?

The positive feedback is just head expanding, thank you. Haha I'm actually a huge fan of Derren. (I was going to say Mr. Brown but upon review decided it looked too much like an innuendo) As for what I'm going to do with it, I don't really know what I can do with it, I guess just keep it updated as regularly as I can. And also not get a puppy.

Cool just in my experience longish blogs (excelent as yours is), are hard to persuade people to read. If you're trying to tout your skills to people.

Well I'm not very experienced and any pointers you could give would be a grand help, especially in terms of what I'm actually able to do with it.

I read through the first two posts and didn't feel it was very strong. The 'angry' blog has been done many, many times before and you're going to have to be very special to stand out now. Charlie Brooker's 'Dawn of the Dumb' is a good example of anger with the world demonstrated hilariously.

I'm a fan of Booker, along with David Mitchell and some of Gervais' stuff is kind of where I got my idea for writing. Would you advise doing something with a different sort of tone? Or maybe trying a different medium to do the same kind of thing?

The thing I was getting at is if you want to get on a satire paper or what ever.

You want snappy stuff mixed in with the long posts.

So stuff like top 10s, mock interviews, reviews etc

And some posts in the couple of hundred work bracket.

Well, I'd go with what works best for you. If you want to carry on with the 'anger' try and give it a new bent. Alternatively, try a variety of things and see what comes across best.

nb ironic false positives can be a good twist.

Write of your love for David Cameron, and Hoxton Wankers.

Thanks for all the pointers, really helpful. To be honest, if I'm joking around with mates, the angry/frustrated persona isn't what I normally go for, it's just one that I find easiest when writing. I like the idea of mixing it up though, I'm pretty much a baby at this so all the feedback is hugely helpful

Well it's a good blog, you're underlying writing skills are there.

Why not check out mine (probably the worst and least read blog on the web but meh its got some variety)

But I'd mess about with some diferent forms.
