What ever happened to critique? Page 6

Maybe bring in a rule that people put SITCOM or SKETCH in the title.

People don't exactly always follow rules though.

Thread Icons could do this job. Y'know the smiles n that you can pick next to new threads.

I've got a sketch about Washington, Paris and London.

The old George Washington, Paris Hilton sex tape in filmed in London sketch.

I mean the loss of guys like Henman is really noticable.

Yeah but Murray is here now and he's a lot funnier.

Hehe

Stick that in Critique

Steve what's your top chatup line?

I don't think it's a make or break aspect really. When Critique was busier, I don't think the lack of SKETCH or SITCOM in the title was an issue.

A writing forum that I used to post on - along with a few others from this site - had a monthly sketch competition which the contributors would vote on each month. The winners of each quarter would then be judged and critiqued by Micheal Jacob. I think something similar could help encourage people back to Critique and maybe a few newcomers.

The arrival of the BCG sketch podcast will, of course, liven up Critique in an instant. In 2022.

Laughing out loud

OK - lots of good (bits of) music but it's getting bit boring now. Any comedy on tonight?

Critique was definitely a more friendly place when I first started posting in there back in 2007. It was busier too and this led to a number of collaborations between members - something which barely happens now.

I contest this comment. Live From Kirrin Island is born entirely of BCG writers mostly via the Critique forum and is probably the biggest collaborative effort of all BCG collaborations. It's pretty much 100% BCG, certainly in genesis.

Dan

Not just because I was involved in Kirrin Island.
But when Critique is filled with KI or Newsjack at least it's filled with something.
And people can always Aaronise their profile to ignore these things.
It shouldn't be used an excuse not to check that section out from time to time.

I get as annoyed as anyone when I have to search for the I'm pissed off at news thread.

But there's room for everything on here.

That's a good point, Dan. I kind of took that as being a non-BCG thing for some reason. I can only, as ever, humbly apologise.

However, that's the first thing in a long time. That I'm aware of anyway.

No problem. It's also open doors and all submissions have to be through Critique, so it's actually promoting that particular forum and giving it a use that may amount to something, as many of the sketches have subsequently been recorded.

In fairness, even if you get a lot of great comments in Critique, you're no nearer getting it made, so for KI to actively take stuff and record it, is perhaps giving it more functionality than it ever had before.

There's no-one involved in that project who isn't grateful to Critique for helping them get to that stage.

Dan

The only reason I got invited to KI was because I got involved in the NewsJack threads in Critique last series.
Something I hadn't really bothered to do much before.

On a general writing forum I visit you need to have been a member for at least 2 weeks, made a minimum number of posts around the site and made 2 'constructive critiques' of other people's work before you can post your own. It seems to work very well for keeping the critique section active while weeding out people who just want to be told what a good boy/girl they are for writing something.

I don't know if something like this would be over the top for this forum, as I'm new here myself, but I thought I'd mention it :)

I quite like this idea, both because it would encourage constructive feedback but also it might (leading by example) prevent some of the more 'WTF is this?!' posts.

I don't know if it would work though as I suppose it could just result in tit for tat responses.

...That's not really added to the debate much has it? >_<

Remember that Aaron has to code these forums himself. He hasn't used a template. He created this from scratch (I believe). So any suggestions of rewriting code are less likely to pass.

How would this suggestion be controlled? How do you separate this restriction from the other forums?
