Brand X

Wasn't sure where to put this thread. In fairness, it doesn't really deserve a thread at all but just wanted to voice how much I disliked this. For those who don't know, it's a Russell Brand vehicle aired on Sky Atlantic.
It's actually an American show (as can be evidenced by the edgy heavy rock intro) with our Russell just doing and saying whatever he likes about various current affairs. It's very much like Russell Howard's Good News, only even less funny (which is saying something).
The similarity goes even further when you realise the audience is comprised almost exclusively of women. (In fairness to Brand, at least his eyes aren't too close together.) They should do a double act; unfunny c**ts women want to f**k.
It looks really cheap and, frankly, is.

Sadly, I like Brand in many respects and he can be funny. He's certainly intelligent (his interview with Paxman on the existence of God is a highlight) but he seems to have disappeared up his own botty wot.

It was alright. I suppose. I was feeding the baby whilst watching it at 2am.

Dan

I do like Russell Brand.
But most of this was meandering & not very funny

I thought the first one was a bit preachy and boring.
It just feels a bit odd and more detached to me, because it's filmed in America. I absolutely loved his English series (I think it was called Ponderland) which was vaguely similar, but much, much more fun.

My post got a reply. I'm shocked and astounded.

Yeah, shit wasn't it? And yes, Ponderland was good.

Loved Ponderland.

It was similar to in Bed with Me Dinner
But funnier.

And why have they made it look like they almost shot it in black and white? A bit of colour, please!

I was so disappointed with Brand X, watched the first episode and hardly laughed, then watched half of the second episode and gave up. I cannot put my finger on why it does not work for me. I think it lacked focus and of course lacked laughs as far as I was concerned. It seemed to be grasping for funny current subjects?

Russell Brand is another of my faves and I was expecting a US-based Ponderland which made me cry with laughter at points. Sigh :(

I found it a lot funnier this week. Seemed like he improvised a bit, and had a lot more fun with it. Much better than the slightly dreary first episode.

Read an article about it saying it gets funnier as the series goes on, so I gave it another try with the pornography episode (not sure if that's EP2 or 3) and it was indeed more bareable.
