Swearing and material

Good afternoon All,

Just a quick question that I may already know the answer to in my head but, here goes. If I'm going to submit a sample of my material to a competition (BBC NAOTY) should I remove all traces of swearing? My reason for asking is that I now only have one swear word in a 5 minute set but, it's integral to the joke/ story so I'm hard pushed to remove it but, will leave it scupper my already slim chance of making it through to the heats??

Any advice or suggestions would be gratefully received.

All the best,

Jason.

Might help if you explain what NOATY is.

It's what all the animals called Noah.

It depends on the slot. Half the dealy with competitions is showing your reliable; you can spell, keep word length, appearance etc

So if you've got any doubts ditch it.

Hi David/Sooty,

It's the BBC New Act of the year competition on radio 2, which is why I was wondering it's only one word, said once (shit) but, in the context of the story it a key word.

All the best,

Jason.

Suggest reading the rules of the comp to see if swearing is forbidden. If it's not and it's absolutely integral to the joke then I guess leave it in. The clip you're sending is only for them to assess whether you should go through to the next round after all - it's not like it's going on air.
