British Comedy Guide

Chris Moyles' Comedy Empire

Am I starting too many threads?

Just thought I'd mention this one though as I went to the recording last night and it's on Monday night BBC Three as the lovely British Comedy Guide people have mentioned.

I was very impressed (I currently live in Hackney and work next door to the Hackney Empire plus it was free! so despite my reservations about Chris Moyles I went along).

Firstly he was actually OK and has lost a lot of weight which is irrelavant but a little bit of personal interest/ gossip for you.

And secondly if you like stand up give it a watch. It may not come across so well on TV but me and the 8 people I went with all enjoyed it, as did the crowd although we were knackered by the time Jason Byrne came on and couldn't be bothered to answer his questions. He still got the laughs though.

I think there were about 10-12 comics on including quite a few from Hackney, the more well known ones were:

Jason Byrne, Andrew Maxwell, Doc Brown, Mark Watson, Ava Vidal, Josie Long and the guy who's won a few newcomer act awards lately whose name I've forgotten.

Also they may not show them but they had three youngsters from Hackney coached by the others performing for the first time who did really well and Greg James off Radio 1 doing something with cakes :S Shame you don't see the warm up guy because he was great too.

Not everything hit the mark but overall there were lots of laughs so I'd be interested to see how it goes down on TV.

Racist. :O

I should probably explain that in case anyone reading it takes it literally or Ajgo sues me! :$ It was just a reference to a bit of his set which was one of my favourites on the night.

Moyles has lost a lot of weight and insists that this is the 'new me' whilst informing the audience that he is still a 'bastard'. Funny? But where I come from it tends to be other people who call you a bastard and you usually never know that you are one, though you do tend to have a sneaking suspicion that this is the case. In any case, I watched Moyles performance and even though I was drunk (I find this helps with the heckle), I never once wanted to call him a bastard; either out loud or in my private thoughts. Being a northerner I would much prefer to call him a fat bastard but having shed the pounds he denied me even that simple northern pleasure. I didn't listen to the comedians - I'd turned the sound off because I'm learning how to lip read at the moment.

This is the main problem. I would like to support this event but my pathological hatred of Chris Moyles (fat or thin) prevents me from even entering the Borough of Hackney when he's around.

I don't know why, but I imagine that he smells of cheese and onion crisps.

Yes, he was great in Back To The Future.

I saw the first half, so four of the acts; the two I'd heard of were great, the two I hadn't were not, especially the woman who said 'ya' know wot I mean' about fifty times in three minutes. Pat Cahill was very good.

Cahill's bona fide. Here he is doing his famous Chick N' Mix song...

I have to admit I enjoyed the live show much more than the edited TV Version... Still had its moments though.
