Funny Women Competition and Jane P Page 3

A BCG meet up would be great if there are enough people traveling up.

I've booked my ticket, but only because Jim Cotter is hosting and Don is making an appearance.

Wow that's a large penis.

Which one?

Kenneth you are a strange man! :O

David - Edinburgh sounds good - I hope the show goes v well for you and if I can make it I will. Well done too on Nick Helm's sketch. I look forward to seeing it. :D

I trust you all enjoyed my 'performance' in Nick's first Blap the other day? Yes the headless person carrying a drink in the opening few seconds was me. I suspect it's the closest I'll ever get to working with Nick or Channel 4 but luckily I had low aspirations so I can rest easy now. :)

I didn't make it through this time but I am one to watch apparently - although isn't that what they say about shoplifters? :)

Oh well it was only my fourth performance - I need to do lots more to build up confidence I think (or have it disappear completely).

But on the good news front I have booked my trip to Edinburgh for 7th to 14th August and hope to spot at least one BCGer there.

Better luck next time, Jane. :)

Getting noticed is a big achievment well done

Jane have you seen this? http://www.funnysfunny.co.uk/

Funny's Funny is an altogether less evil competition. Is it still open? I feel like entry closed last month. Someone less lazy than me can check.

Considering you are still a stand up comedy virgin, I think this is great news. Keep at it and keep us informed of your progress.

Next time someone calls you 'a funny lady', it will be on stage and not when you are shopping in Asda. ;)

Well done Jane, unlucky.

"One to watch" is a cracking achievement after only 4 gigs. Well done Jane.

Bloody well done you, you're doing good lass

Hopefully see you in Ebrr. Don't nick my groceries.

Cracking job, Jane. Just having the nerve to show up for a competition when you've only done 3 gigs is an achievement!

Ahh thanks for all the nice comments. Any rejection can make you feel a bit of a loser but I guess in stand up/comedy writing/life in general, it's part of the process.

I know Funny Women gets a bit of a bad press from some but I have no complaints. From my limited experience it seems that for budding comics like me, in the early days a lot of open mic nights have very small audiences, at least half of whom are other comics preoccupied with their own performance so it can feel a bit awkward. I've met some lovely people through FW and got to perform to a packed responsive room which was great. :)

Obviously I can't afford a career where I shell out every time I have a go but on the other hand there are lots of nice people on this site - so perhaps I could hire a few of you and a minibus occasionally. :)

Thanks re the Funny's Funny site link. I'd not seen it before. Nat it says the official deadline was 31 May but you can still email them and possibly get into a heat - although heats are over by the end of June so it's very tight. I don't think I could make that myself but I'm interested in the workshops in Edinburgh or future events. My vague plan is to have a go at this lark for a year to see how I get on (or not). Perhaps try another comp at the end and see if I've improved at all.

Tony I see you're involved with FF so I guess you're the man to ask. I'll pm you if that's OK.
