Funny Women Competition and Jane P

I went to one of the heats of the Funny Women Competition last night at the Betsy Trotwood pub in Farringdon and saw ex-BCG alumni and all round groovy chick Jane P doing some stand up.

She did an awesome job and got quite a few laughs and I take my hat off to her, getting up in front of a bunch of strangers and trying to make them laugh just seems absolutely terrifying to me.

There was a great atmosphere, the compere was very good and my worst fear about female comedy - non-stop man hating, periods and baby jokes - wasn't realised. Though one bird did a whole segment about the joys of 'Hobby Craft', which left me perplexed as I don't know what that is. Hovercrafts yes, Hobby Craft, no.

I would thoroughly recommend going to one of the heats and er...seeing the comedy stars of tomorrow, today!...yes, that has just the right amount of cheese.

If you are reading this good luck Jane, you deserve to go through to the finals.

Big surprise! It's not the '80s.

Hurrah for Jane!

;) Blimey, has Renegade had heatstroke? very pleasant post that.

What's the diference between a ladies comedies night and a toddler's funeral?

It's easier to work out when you're supposed to laugh at a toddler's funeral.

Cool! Good luck Jane if you're reading!

Agreed!

Well done Jane and good luck!

Oooh blimey - I've not been on here for yonks. But RP was actually being nice about me so how could I not come back and say 'Hi'? (He tries to hide it Dellas but he's lovely really - and yet he'll hate me for saying that - weird).

But having him and AJGO in the audience was a real boost.

I'm very new to stand up - it was only my fourth attempt but I thought it would be a nice receptive audience after attending one of their workshops, and it was so I'm v pleased I went. :) But it was probably an even split of men and women in the audience so I had to scrap all my 'period' jokes Whistling nnocently .

It's a weird thing to do as I'm sure many of you know - lots of writing rewriting practice practice practice terror why am I doing this and then it feels like you're 'up there' for about 30 seconds and can't remember doing it!

But fun - so I'll keep going for a while longer - see if I can build up a bigger set (and remember it!).

I didn't go off in a huff from here by the way - I was just spending too much time in front of a laptop!

Hello to anyone who sees this and remembers me and maybe see you in July. :)

Extra big hello to Shoepie Zoo Neil Badge on here! Hope you're all fine and dandy and enjoy the (un)sunny weekend.

And Sooty J - tsk - Rolling eyes - I hereby challenge you to an 8 mile style comedy 'battle'. Err maybe not - we should learn from each other instead - I'll start calling the government a bunch of ****ers and you can complain about men not putting the toilet seat down. :D

Now I have to spend a year catching up on all your threads you busy people.

xx

ps you can see why I left now - everyone else writes a couple of punchy lines - I'm here with my life story!

:D Great post thanks for popping by!

Well done on getting out there, Jane. Hope to bump into you again at Edinburgh this year.

Well done Jane, you were great!

(She really was, I'm not just saying that. Funny material, loved her delivery, fingers crossed she goes through to next stage)

Well done, P.

:)

I wonder if we are related? :)

Maybe you have a Baby P. :/
