They're stand-ups? Most stands-ups secretly f**king loathe any stand-up that is getting more laughs than them. It's a "Teacher! Me, me!" type of world.
Yeah, you're probably right there.
I liked his uncle/hypnotist line.
Anyone think this episode was brilliant? I think that was probably the best of the series so far. They all seemed to be on decent form (even Andy Parsons who I don't particularly like).
"Eskimos have 600 words for 'we're f**ked'"

I loved all of that bit.
"I'm the youngest of three...my parents are both older".
"I'd like to dedicate this performance to my father, who was a roofer. So dad, if you're up there..."
Quite predictable but funny
I loved that roofer joke. Cracked me up.
Not as funny as last week, but still very good.
Enjoyed the Canadian's stand up especially this week. Overall a good episode, though Russell's food bit didn't do anything for me.
I bet Catona's sitting at home thinking 'For F**k Sake'
Another pretty funny show but at times it's about as topical as It Ain't Half Hot Mum - Russell Howard recalling his bedroom history- how is that mocking the week??
The program does show signs of losing its way, still pretty funny though..
The quality of Stewart Francis's stand up was really suprising, i think he showed that there is another gear above the level of comedy being done of the show...
Its now too predicatable to create a Mock the Week tickbook
Josef Fritzl
Kerry Katona
Jade Goody
Gary Glitter etc
I agree about the predictability/lack-of-topical material on Mock the Week, but it was still a great episode IMHO.
And, yeah, Stewart Francis's stand-up routine was exceptional wasn't it. He does somewhat have the advantage though that we've not seen him on our screens before thus he can use all his best material that he's been building over a number of years (whilst people like Russell Howard are now in recycling territory - heard his chocolate story before)
Thats exactly the problem Mark- comedians like Russell Howard aren't consistently funny enough off the cuff to warrant being on the show every week - that's why Frankie hogs all the limelight, coz he's so much better at being funny and topical.
Frankie and Hugh should be the only regulars on the show in IMHO.
And bring back Bremner!
Too be honest I don't think anyone on the show warrants being a regular. Frankie has lost his shock value through over-exposure; Hugh just looks bored; Andy seems to have dried up; and Russell is not topical (or funny).
Ed Byrne and David Mitchell are a breath of fresh air when they come on the show, partly because they are good, but mainly because they seem to be enjoying themselves.
They should definitely have less (or no) regulars and more guests.

I pretty much agree. The new guy was good last night but everyone else...eh. You have to feel sorry for Hugh. He tries his best to make a joke and gets a weak laugh, whilst Frankie could kill half the audience with a rifle and still get 5 minutes of applause.
It's a regular trap for panel shows- the regulars after awhile get too comfortable and use up all their good material. I think it might also help to invent some new rounds. The repeated nature of the rounds just seems to generate basically the same jokes every week, only in a different order.
