Mock The Week - 2007 & 2008 Page 17

I have a vague recollection of his telling a jacuzzi joke - and me finding it rather amusing. Any idea what it was exactly? YouTube?

The gag was about his family buying a jacuzzi and all using it at the same time. His mother then threw in "Know what I've just realised? Everyone in here has sucked my tits!". I found it a bit cringe inducing, the kind of joke you tell when you're little and learning naughty words.

Hahaha! That's the one! Yes, that one amused me. But I do know what you mean about the cringe. :)

I found that jacuzzi story funny too.

But I do recall several of his jokes falling flat.

But, y'know, who cares? Good on him for trying them out!

There was something this week that he did - I think just a sudden really loud burst of laughter - which I wondered what the hell he was doing, but I can't really think of anything else.

That bit on with what 6-year-olds (?) are interested in was brilliant. :D

Oh yeah. Being taught about gays?

Hahah, yes, that's the one. Stamping and custard, I think? :D

Yeah! And spinning if they have the spare time.

Laughing out loud

I did a proper head-thrown-back laugh at that one. :)

:) He does talk about childhood a lot. Seems to be his 'thing'.

Kids are rather amusing.

Is there anyone else who talks about childhood? Kay goes on about the 80s and 90s, but not specifically childhood I don't think.

The one where he was talking about putting marbles up his brother's arris was just plain disturbing.

Do you honestly think he's talented? I mean really talented enough to be in the position he's in?

I have a feeling if he posted on here he'd get loads of '>_<'s and ':S's, but because he happens to be on the telly...hmm!

All I know is he makes me laugh a lot. That's enough really.

I agree he's sort of, a comedian in the making. He's not fully formed yet, and is sort of learning a bit as he goes along still. But he is quite young. I don't think you need to be the finished article before you're allowed on TV.

I think he's (Howard) pretty funny most of the time. Yes I've noticed other panelists giving him funny looks sometimes, and yes, some of his jokes fall flat, but he's still mostly good. Maybe it's that his style doesn't suit the show. He doesn't really do satirical stuff, so commenting on the weeks news may be a bit hit 'n' miss depending on whether any of his material fits. I like him though. :) I'd rather see him on there over Ed Bryne or that Aussie bloke any day.

Yes.

Agreed. :)

I recently got way into this show, and it's hilarious.

There are many grievances on this thread, I think you all just need to relax. Russell Howard is a bit hit and miss, but so is every comic on that show, and indeed the world. I agree his style isn't best suited for Mock The Week but sometimes it does work, and I find him actually to be quite witty at times. I think his standup style is so outrageous that people forget about the little comments he sometimes gets in.

Frankie Boyle is of course the best, absolutely hilarious. People say he's a sort of "shock comic" which is somewhat true, but like Howard, he can be very witty too. He reminds me of George Carlin. They have the same cynical attitude that the human race is doomed, and they both said things and made jokes no other comedian would dare. Still he's great...

"Scientists have created the worlds biggest supercollider, and they're doing an experiment to find out what makes up protons. Now I hope that if the experiment is successful, our entire reality will just dissolve, and a big sign will come up that says... LEVEL 2"

Dara is a great host and just as hilarious as the panelists. He's almost like a panelist himself because unlike say, Angus Deayton in Would I Lie To You, who is also hilarious but all of his jokes are pre-written one liners (though very clever ones).

David Mitchell is great on the show too. He is perfect for the Mock The Week style satirising... His rant on this weeks show about the wanker bankers and their bullshit money was great. Hugh Dennis is great too, but he does tend to overuse the gimmicks like "Are you paying too much for your car insurance?" or his clamidia jokes. Still very good... It was great in the early seasons when he would do the voice overs for clips of the royals and such... extremely good at that, too bad they ended it.

All in all I'd have to say Andy Parsons is the weakest. He says something funny now and then, but mostly he's pretty boring and his style of humour is quite dull and ordinary. Also, I just can't stand his bloody voice.
