Has PC ruined the British Sitcom?

Has Political Correctness ruined the British Sitcom? What's your opinion?

I thought we'd ot over it!

Yes.

Naw... homogenised TV is more to blame...

Yes, I can no longer call a man a man, a spade a spade or a ****** a ******-*****. :P

let me just consult with my common law spouse/partner of equal merit

...or are we being politically correct by even discussing it?

I just don't know anymore!!!

As said by Aaron.

No I don't mean it like that, that is obviously wrong in this day and age. I'm talking about shows like: Are you Being Served, On the Buses and It Aint Half Hot Mum. Also, I think Johnny Speight's Till Death us do Part needs repeating again as I think it is one of Britain's best sitcoms. Speight was making fun of Garnett, showing this stupid man with his half thought up opinions. True in the early shows there was some material difficult to defend, but watching a DVD, I found some episodes extremely watchable and enjoyable.

wah wah polictical correctness gone mad

I don't see the correlation between use of "un-PC" terms and quality of humour. Television and comedy producers being worried about what can and can't be said, however, is a bad thing. It should be obvious what should and should not be intended as offensive.

I think blaming PC attitudes for all the ills of the world, including lamentable comedies, is just lazy Dail Mail esque thinking. Are people who proclaim to like un-PC humour really sad that we can't have jokes about pakkis, coons, kikes and towel heads? Would the average British comedy really be made better if we had some of the characters mocking people with Downs Syndrome?
