Grandma's House - Series 2 Page 3

There were several amazing lines in this week's.
Very funny stuff.

Possibly true, I shall have a quick look then before I disagree, but my point still remains - If you don't have a main character and/or lead actor playing him/her (most classic sitcoms have had both) that people instantly warm to then you don't have a sitcom many will want to tune into, good scripts or not good scripts. Is Amstal really a David Jason or a Dawn French? My own little reckoning is that he isn't, in any tiny way. (Though he clearly desperately wnats to be). Ahhh.

Thing is, I totally warm to his character. As do many others! I find him endearing and likeable, and I'd say they're using the classic 'only normal one surrounded by mad people' concept that many sitcoms use, to great effect.

Yes I see that, he's working his charm on you now, but you're a comedy anorak, if you'll forgive me, you watch a lot of comedy anyway, but millions still see Amstal as the sarcastic little squirt on Buzzcocks they don't really like.

In other words he's not Ronnie Barker in a new sitcom they're just dying to watch, he isn't a big favourite like others on the list of comedy stars and actors that pulled new viewers in overnight. You and some others like him now, great, but many don't wnat to know him after his incredibly catty performances on Buzzcocks.

Ah, well Buzzcocks made me love him even more. ;)

Yep, that's nearly a million people who are quite mad.

The rest of us are possibly tired of manufactured dross for pampered stars who're incredibly lucky to be 'stars' in the first place. Maybe the millions of non viewers just don't think they are star worthy?

'Let him have a wank in the attic!'

'Let him have a wank in the attic!'

:D That was ace.
Also loved the line about women being like roads, the more curves they've got the more likely you are to kill yourself. (Or something like that.)

200,000 viewers down this week.

People be crazy.

The "wank in the attic" bit was hilarious. I wasn't quite as pulled in this week as I was last week, but enjoyable nonetheless.

I think this is definitely the funniest programme of 2012, so far.

It's a shame about viewing figures, though. Unless they improve sharply over the coming weeks, I really can't see a third series being commissioned.

I know Amstell from Buzzcocks and liked him a lot, that is why I am watching this.

Haven't seen last night's yet so this isn't a post about that but rather about Amstell.

AJK might be right, he's definitely not a "name" actor who will bring an army of fans to the show. I've yet to meet anyone else in real life who's ever heard of this show. The only people I know who've even seen it have only done so because I put them onto it.

The other thing is, I think if you tuned into this because you like Amstell in Buzzcocks, you'd find that he's nothing like the same person in both. He's much more like the real Amstell, assuming his stand up stuff is the real Amstell.

Very possibly true; but then where was the big name pulling in the viewers for, say, 'Father Ted', or 'The Office'? He probably had more of a profile of some sort than the leads in those shows. So basically, not having a big name star attached isn't always a deciding factor in whether a show builds an audience or not.

'Let him have a wank in the attic!'

Laughing out loud Brilliant. (Though I think it was loft. In case you were thinking of adopting it as your personal catchphrase)

I absolutely love Rebecca Front
