A bit of my stand up debut:

Comments welcome...

I really liked it! Are you going for a subdued personality or where you just you nervous? Either way well done for doing it - I never would - and the crowd seemed to love it

Cheers, Tom.

When rehearsing I slowed it up a lot initially to stop nerves and to make the delivery clearer. The gag timing then just seemed more natural also.

Hey Jack. I thought it was great. Really liked the material - made me laugh out loud on a South West Train commute which got me some strange looks. Also the delivery seemed to work well - as you say not rushed.

Hey Jack,

Really good stuff, and your delivery worked really well here. I can imagine how easy it would be to just blurt the lines out if you're nervous (although you didn't seem nervous), so keeping an even pace definitely did the trick.
Some good lines and it was well received by the audience, top work, fella!

Lovely stuff, dead pan, excelent timing, the audience loved you and lots of very neatly cut little jokes.

Can we see it all? That was incredibly funny.

What he said, great stuff for a first gig, well done and keep up the good work.

Good, slick jokes. Well done, Jack.

For a first go that was very good indeed

Thanks for the comments (TC - I'm honoured!).

That was the best two minutes, I reckon, of about 11 minutes on stage - I think some other decent laughs but also some fallow - but no tumbleweed (apart from the gag). I would appreciate feedback on how to make it all better - but haven't worked out how to compress it properly yet.

I'm having another go this Thursday, which I may film and post instead.

My advice for anyone having a go would be (1) write some jokes and (2) rehearse. I never saw myself as a performer and was absolutely cr@pping it before and (2) in particular makes a world of difference.

Just to add a couple of points to make it a 5 step plan for stand up success;

1) Write some jokes
2) Rehearse jokes
3) Tell jokes on stage
4) Try to learn from the experience
5) Repeat 1-4 as much as possible

'Twas great!

Excellent Jack. Good jokes and good delivery. Made me laugh out loud. Well done for putting it up as well.

Very good Jack! Good gags and good delivery.

Speaking as someone who has done stand-up twice, I agree wholeheartedly with your tips (and Tony C's wise additions). TBH if you know your routine before you go on you are almost bound to be in the top half of any open mic night in the land.
