The Food Addict..Views please.

Meant to be a series of sketches based around a food addict[ Caitlin ].

Meant to gently highlight how food is an addiction as strong and as destructive as any drug.

Caitlin: In her 40's, approx 5ft 2, Obese.

Sketch One : Set in a therapy session.

Caitlin lies on psychiatrist's couch. Psychiatrist sits behind her out of sight.

Psychiatrist : " So Caitlin, last week you were talking about your mother and how you feel she never really allowed you to be spontaneous as a child "

Caitlin : " Yes, well she was so shy herself, she couldn't cope with spontaneity. "

Psychiatrist : " And do you think this contributed to your drink problem ? "

Caitlin: " Yes, but that's OK now. I haven't drunk for over 6 years and with my programme of recovery I don't think I ever will again . It definately helps having a programme of recovery "

Psychiatrist: " So how have you managed to fill the hole without alcohol Caitlin? "

Camera goes back to Caitlin. She is unwrapping a family size chocolate bar .

Caitlin: " Oh I don't need to fill the whole anymore. No , with the programme I have learnt to deal with my unresolved anger and fear "

Camera returns to Psychiatrist.

Psychiatrist : " So you don't feel that giving up the alcohol has left a hole in your life. How do you deal with stress now Caitlin ? ".

Camera returns to Caitlin lying on couch. She now has a full roast dinner on her chest and is trying to eat it whilst remaining on the couch.

Caitlin: " Oh I don't tend to get stressed now. If I do I meditate, It's great for stress meditation"

Camera returns to Psychiatrist.

Psychiatrist: " It's just that often people can transfer an addiction onto something else "

Camera returns to Caitlin. She is now standing up with a white apron and chef's hat on, cutting meat off a huge doner kebab which is being cooked on grill [ as in Kebab shop ].
She cuts a bit off, burns her fingers a bit but gets it into her mouth.

Caitln [ talking with mouth full of kebab meat ]; " No , No, I'm fine. I know some people who get into prescription drugs and stuff but meditation does it for me "

Psychiatrist [ clearly concerned by Caitlin's bizarre behaviour ]: " OK, It's only that if we don't look at the reasons for your initial addictive behaviour you could end up in a worse place then when you started "

Camera pans back to Caitlin who now is trying to force a complete black forest gateau into her mouth in one go.

Caitlin [ mumbling through the cake ]: " No No I'm absolutely fine doctor , absolutely fine"

Very funny. I could picture it all!

Good stuff (!)
I thought it needed a stronger conclusion though, rather than just the general irony of the piece as a whole.

I really liked it... I could see the whole idea making pictures in my head... i think everyone knows a Caitlin in some respects

Hehe I really liked this! I could imagine every single thing which happened

Thanks for the positive feedback. Any areas where it could be improved do you think ?.
