Too old to begin stand-up career?

Hi All,

After a long time dismissing the idea (me usually) Aid and I are seriously thinking about performing stand-up.
My main reservation is that I am 51 and apart from school plays (which I loved) and a couple of our videos I don't have any performance experience so am worried that I might let him down.
At work I have had reason to do presentations and chair meetings (lower management level) but this idea is totally different. Obviously.

However, I shall take advice if any offered as to whether 51 is really too old to begin.

Cheers.

Never too late.

But most people over 40 who start on standup are recovering from breakdowns.

But yeh if you're funny why the hell not?

Funny?

Oh :(

Might as well do it now or you'll put it off for five, ten years then wish you'd done it five, ten years ago.
Good luck :)

You could always get your cock out and ask the compere for a fight?

Pitifully funny can work.

I'd say go for it. It's better to regret the things you've done than to regret the things that you didn't do.

What, a cock fight? That's not the stand-up I was thinking of.:O

Though not necessarily. I've seen some of your stuff on you tube! :P

Absolutely spot on! Aid had a go nearly 10 years ago but I never went to support him so he lost enthusiasm and gave up. I should have been there for him, preferably on the stage with him.
Cheers.

Pitifully funny or even fitfully funny is always going to beat never having bothered.

Albeit your rather abusive PMs and posts were quite funny when I first started frequenting this forum.

Do let us know when you're willing to share all your comedic gifts with the world.

I'm sure we can muster a wee BCG posse if you want support at London gigs/shoulders to cry on/sympathetic drinks bought for you ;)

Cheers AJGO!

Though if anyone was to take the trouble to suffer even the few minutes we might be allowed then drinks should be on us (or me to be precise as I'm the problem).

Pleasantly surprised by the response and currently feel quite confident.

Now to sharpen up the material.

I'm not gonna take the trouble to stand up on stage just to have people laugh at me!

Cheers All.

I'm 43 tomorrow - and did my first stand up last night. Went OK, I think.

I forgot my second gag "I'm supposed to start with a lookalike. I bet you are probably all thinking I look like... a mid-life crisis".

Your never too old to start, and I wish you the best of luck.

@Big Jack Lol, I like your slant on the 'I know you're all thinking I look like' bit very funny and original.
