NJ: Human Rights Drop

Exclusive! Here's something not in tonight's episode!

Human Rights Drop
====================
JUSTIN:
Misunderstanding of the withdrawal method can lead to rather sticky circumstances, and backbenchers this week wanted Britain to pull out of the European Convention for Human Rights; at least long enough to send Abu Qatada back to Jordan. This is potentially a more dangerous precedent, than George W. Bush.

VOICEOVER:
For one week only! An amazing, never-to-be-beaten special offer from UK plc! No charges on any Human Rights violations!

CROWD:
What?

V/O:
Yes! That's right! Absolutely all charges dropped, right across the waterboard!

CROWD:
No!

V/O:
Yes!

WARDER:
Make criminals wear pink underwear?

V/O:
No charge!

CARDINAL:
Deliberately misunderstand Human Rights to argue for banning gay marriage?

V/O:
No charge!

CHRISTIAN:
Wear a crucifix at work? Openly?

POLITICIAN:
Admit to war crime charges to fasttrack my ex-PM knighthood?

JOE PUBLIC:
Allow Azerbaijan to host the Eurovision Song Contest?!

V/O:
Absolutely no charges whatsoever! And use the amnesty to get what you need!

POLICEMAN:
Torture suspects to improve crime statistics in my jurisdiction?

V/O:
Yes!

POLITICIAN:
Send a grade-A lunatic back to his home country even though his admissions were performed under torture?

V/O:
Go for your life! Or theirs!

WARDER:
Make prisoners wear pink underwear?

V/O:
Enough with the pink underwear! If you need *your* Human Rights violation redacted, take advantage now! Wipe the slate clean! (LOW) Of blood and grey matter from a botched interrogation (NORMAL) now!

END

Brilliantly written Dan. I loved the double-gag intro and there's great lines throughout. I'm surprised this never got on.

Really like this. Perhaps figuring out how they would get across the different characters as stated in text was too much work?

I particularly liked the intro up to "right across the waterboard!" Nice work! This is more an opinion than a critique, forgive me.

I will take it, needy writer that I am.

Cheers all!

I agree. I think you were unlucky not to get this on. I can hear Lewis Mcleod doing it.

funny stuff
i can picture the ad lol

I've gotta say not your best.

The reference to GWB after he's been out of office for years was off putting.

Plus the charge/charge double entendre felt a little bit forced.

But pacing and format were great.

Loved this.

As to why it didn't get picked..... Perhaps you've just covered too many topical stories in one sketch (I counted 3-4) and NJ didn't want to tread on the toes of other sketches or jokes already being recorded.

Nice. Maybe could do with a little trim to make it shorter and punchier. Loved the pink underwear callback, really made me laugh, you could have probably milked that with the warder saying it three times. Good stuff.

Cheers everyone. Appreciated.

Dan

Agree with general praise, but was also a bit thrown by GWB reference.
