Help with a name for a school comedy

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could help me with a name of an old British comedy I saw years ago.
It would have been late 1980s or early 90s and it was about a school where the pupils were pretty much out of control. Teachers used to get lightly assaulted by their pupils and had no power, the kids were blatantly in charge.

Not a lot to go on I know, I only saw an episode or two and remember it being quite funny but don't really remember any details.

Any help would be great, thanks!

It was called 'Spatz'. You're welcome.

Spatz? Wasn't that about a burger restaurant?

Sounds quite like the short-lived Hardwicke House to me.

Yeh spatz was about a restaurant.
Thanks for the replies guys but neither of them is the one I'm thinking of.
Hardwicke House is in a very similar vein but the one I'm thinking of was definitely more modern. It was probably closer to mid 90's than late 80's thinking about it.

Sounds a bit like the early days of 'Byker Grove' :)

I never got into Grange Hill. Why would you want to come home from school and then watch a TV programme about school?

'Educating Marmalade'? was a real favourite of mine, the title song really Rocks!

Some other school-y sitcoms
Bonjour La Classe https://www.comedy.co.uk/tv/bonjour_la_classe/
Chalk https://www.comedy.co.uk/tv/chalk/

Not to mention of course, Please Sir! https://www.comedy.co.uk/tv/please_sir/

Assuming it's not any of the above...
1) Presumably it was contemporary to the late-80s/mid-90s, rather than a repeat you just saw at that time?
2) Is it possible it was a children's TV show?
3) Do you recall anything else at all? Was it particularly centred around one specific character at the school?
4) Is it possible that it wasn't about the school quite so much, but that scenes there made the most impression on you and stuck in your mind?

Palace Hill?

It was probably your repressed childhood. Or repressed years as a bullied teacher.

These things can mannifest years later as sitcoms of the mind.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, not got it so far.
Sorry that I haven't been able to reply, internet been out at home and can't access site at work.

1) It was contemporary to the 90s, not a repeat. I'm thinking mid to late 90s.
2) It was not a childrens TV show, the language was pretty strong.
3) Don't really recall much else specifically. It was in a very similar vein to Hardwicke House that you suggested earlier but more modern.
4) It was definitely school-centric.

Thanks to everyone that has tried to help, sorry it's so vague.

The school on the show wasn't anything like mine. Mainly because I was a lot younger than the kids in the programme (when I watched it) and also because I was at a little school in the country.
Grange Hill was most exciting!
