Gervais - what a complete c*nt. Page 6

And just because Ricky Gervais has done sitcoms, books, radio and stand-up doesn't mean he's versatile because apart from his books it's all the same humour, 'the comedy of embarrasment and uncomfortable situations', which is not original in itself.

You've not listened to his radio shows or seen his stand-up then?

His radio shows involve discussing Karl's weird theories - no embarrassment or uncomfortable situations and his standby is quite strongly opinionated theories and idealogies that he rips the piss out of. How is that the same? The Office and Extras were completely different.

Saying that he just does one type of comedy and he should do something else is like saying 'Pavarotti, can you do use some hip-hop next time?'

Also, saying 'apart from his books he's a one-trick pony' is like saying apart from his left leg he's one-legged. I'm surprised that the differences can't be seen here.

He tried to get the crowd to join in the Extras song at the Princess Dead gig but not many knew the words, but my how he tried. They still wanted him to do his funny little dance but I guess there will come a time when even that ceases to be 'funny'.

A monkey playing with a cupcake is just as hilarious as watching RG do his funny little dance but no matter how funny and cutting edge that is, after a while it's just not funny any more.

I think hie dance is ironic now because whenever he does it he's is embarassed and is cringing when he performs it just like everyone was when they originally watched it on the Office. Man I love irony.

Me too, my clothes? Crease free.

Hope that was Ironic because it certainly wasn't funny Laughing out loud

Okay Animals was alright, it seemed like he knew about the subject a bit. But Politics is horrible, he knows nothing about politics, most of the 'jokes' in that were just vulgar about wanking and semen etc. Haven't seen Fame but I know a couple of people that have and they were very disappointed, it was just more of him been smug (hey but that's ironic right?) and he didn't even do an hour on stage.

His podcasts I haven't listened to in a while but they use to be mainly about embarrassing Karl Pilkington and don't even get me started on him.

And enough with the 'saying something is something is like saying something else is something else'. You can't class a comedy writer in the same category as Pavorotti for gods sake. A comedy writer should not be using the same style in every show they make (unless it's the same series), even if it's along similar lines they can still vary it like Larry David with Seinfeld and then Curb.

Whether RG is a comedy genius or not... it's highly likely that his star is fading. Or to put it another way, he'll have to pull something really exciting and different out of the bag to remain as a public favourite.

He never actively went after the big audiences. So (certainly now he's made so much money) I think he wouldn't care so much if his next projects aren't as popular with the masses as The Office and Extras were. As long as he gets the opportunity to keep making new stuff.

And as long as I get to see it, I'm happy too. I loved the things he made before The Office, and they went almost completely under the radar.

I've heard exactly the opposite. I was told it was a brilliant stand up act.

Like I say he is not. And his radio show is not about embarrasing Karl as he doesn't get embarrassed its about exploring his bizarre theories and making funny comments, how is that the same as the Office and Flanimals?

My point about Pavarotti is that they are both fat. No, that can't be right. I mean, that his style why should he change it? Some people just write gag-only, or dark comedy, should they also change? Basically you want him to change into the comic you would want. He deals with reality humour, and the stats show that more people like his work than anyone else, so why should he change?

Will? Hasn't it happened, well, long ago?

I'm still trying to find that one-off comedy drama he was in, as an office worker who wanted to be David Bowie.

He sounded very genuine and definitely not ego-maniacal when he appeared on Desert Island Discs the other week... I enjoyed the show a lot.

'Golden Years' I think that was called. I haven't seen that yet either :(
If you get it can I borrow it?!

I think she just wants to bonk Brent. Well, Gervais anyway

:P

Sure thing. And at least I know the title now anyway... :)
