There once was a man called Gervais,
"See his pug-nosed face",
Though some tried to knock him,
And others to mock him,
He-really-didn't-give-a-shit-as-he-was-far-richer-and-much-more-famous-than-any-contemporary-British-comedian.
Gervais - what a complete c*nt. Page 3
I would never go and see a Shakespeare play, but I do kind of like the language he uses, as a writer I like the rhythm it has to it.
I do watch R+J when it's on the telly, not just to see Juliet's tits. I don't mean the Claire Danes one, but the one from the 70's, the girl who plays her in that is gorgeous.
A visual of her ample bosom:
Yah see?
Different folks likes different things!
I think Shakespeare's work has been blown up out of all proportion over the centuries. A bit of good old fashioned snobbery - Desert Island Discs gives castaways The complete works of the Bard to read. No thanks, give me the complete works of PG Wodehouse any day
But even now I'm conscious of sounding bitter and jealous which is my very point about Gervais knockers.
Don't go dissing the greatest play writer of all time! Second only to Oscar Wilde!
"Frailty, thy name is woman"

It's one of the only time you get to see tits in the afternoon with putting dick n dom on!
"I wish Leevil was using my boobs as pillows."
Leevil. Dont be sexist. Wheres the Cocks???????????????????????????????
Quote: Seefacts @ July 7, 2007, 10:01 PMThat's such a one-dimentional view of The Office. Tim was the funniest thing in the show - he represented most people watching. It was full of wonderful lines.
The training day episode goes down, for me, as one of the greatest 30 minutes of comedy ever created.
"All farmers have wives."
"Not this one, he's gay."
"Then he shouldn't be allowed near animals then should he?"That's a wonderful bit of dialogue - we've all met people with that kind of stupid view.
"A bus driver must accept a stamp as legal tender."
"Yeah, that'll happen."
"If it doesn't, report him."
"Yeah, I'll report him as I'm walking home!"And that's my favourite piece from both series. So realistic and sharp.
Sorry, but I don't agree with you. I don't see the above as examples of exceptional dialogue but examples of OK but rather average dialogue. But your opinion is just as valid as mine. I didn't like 'The Office'. I would liked to have liked it as I like both RG and SM from 'Extras' but I didn't like it. I can't see why other people liked it. Like that dance RG did, it wasn't in any way funny to me, just some idiot showing himself up in an unfunny, excruciating way. Sorry. Too contrived. Not funny (to me) but respect your opinion. Most people would agree with you, I'm sure, as it was obviously very popular all over the world. But there's always one, and this time it's me!!!

You know what it is, I just don't like 'cringe' comedy... it makes me cringe and want to turn it off... there were a few cringe making moments in 'Extras' that I didn't like either ... horses for courses, innit? eh?
Fx
Here's a non-cringe joke, Can't remember exactly how it goes:
Tim holds up some rejected signs for the door. In which Gareth is trying to find out who made the pornographic picture of Brent.
The Investigation Room.
The Interrogation Room.
The Investigation Room with Gareth Keenan.
Gareth Keenan Investigates.
Probably more of a visual thing?
I imagine The Office script would not read well. A lot of the comedy does come from the great acting.
I'm sure there were some good lines in 'The Office' (in context) it's just that every time I sat down to watch it I had to get up and go or switch channel as I found it excruciating to watch...
As everybody in 'my office' seemed to like it I of course tried to watch it as well but I hated it!
I must be mentally ill, I guess? I am willing to consider that, for a fee...

Quote: Walker @ July 8, 2007, 12:10 AMI imagine The Office script would not read well. A lot of the comedy does come from the great acting.
And directing too.
I've got them and I read something where Gervais said that everything was scripted beforehand. Certainly the scripts are verbatim to what was broadcast. Mind you it is the BBC book of the scripts I've got so I suppose they could have been transcribed but I don't think so.
I also read Caroline Ahearn saying the same thing about the Royle Family. It was scripted right down to every pause and silence.
I read in Eddie Brabens book about Morecambe & Wise that it was similar with them and they would argue over whether or not a single word should stay in or be left out of a script.
I suppose saying you don't like 'The Office' is a bit like saying you don't like 'Fawlty Towers'! Which I do by the way!
Quote: Godot Taxis @ July 7, 2007, 8:24 PMHe's on BBC1 now, talking about himself and his new movie with Chris Rock. Earlier he was talking about how Spinal Tap asked him to do the gig and how The princes' asked him to do the diana gig. He gives name dropping a bad name.
And he's still fat! Why is that? Would you be f**king fat if you were a multi-millionaire?
Get him off the TV.
C**t!
Quoting myself because some people who posted here didn't read what I said and I don't like being accused of being jealous of Ricky Gervais. The only writers I've ever been jealous of are W H Auden and Ted Hughes and they're both dead. And neither of them were c*nts, unlike Ricky.
I DID NOT SAY GERVAIS WAS NOT FUNNY. HE IS FUNNY.
I SAID SOMETHING ELSE ABOUT HIM.
It was inspired by watching him on Live Earth, telling Jonathan Ross how he didn't want to do this gig or the Diana one but he did it because the Princes, Rob Reiner, Christopher Guest etc.asked him personally. It was a embarrassing as anything from Extras. Even J Ross was embarrassed.
Just before the interview he did some improv and used the f-word before 7.30pm, for which Ross had to apologise.
My post only seems harsh if you didn't see him, which it seems most of you didn't.
I think the more pressing issue Godot is that you watched Live Earth
Apologies for going off topic although I think I did say something about him being a c*nt maybe.

Everyone who works in an office recognises all those characters. Maybe you don't find it funny because you're one of them (I don't mean gay)
Ricky Gervais can afford to be fat!
