So poignant, he had to phrase it twice.
Gervais - what a complete c*nt. Page 11
This site has been acting up on me all day for some reason... I pasted a couple of sentences in the box to see which one I preferred and then I got the ol' 404, for about 10 minutes. As I say it's been doing that pretty much all day, on and off, so far.
Quote: ContainsNuts @ July 12, 2007, 10:15 AMIt shows true character when someone goes on to a british sitcom website and starts a post calling the most successful current british comedian a C-word, especially over the points made. And I saw all the Gervais appearances too.
Also criticising him for being fat shows that you've got prejudice issues anyway.
I don't regard Gervais as 'the most successful current british comedian' because I don't grade a writer's success by dollars or gongs. I would not argue that Gervais is not funny - I have often laughed at his shows. The second series of Extras is very funny, although the tone of it is also very sour and it would have been script-edited out of existence if Gervais and Merchant hadn't made it, because it is very inconsistent in terms of character alone.
What are 'prejudice issues'? I asked why he was still fat as a multi-millionaire. Gervais can afford a personal chef and a personal trainer. It's not a good thing to fat, you know it puts a strain on your heart and shortens your life.

Trust me, so can this forum at times.

Actually, that is a definition of 'success' and the one i was using. I didn't say he was the 'funniest' as that is opinion, but you can't grade someone's achievements on your opinion alone.
Secondly, obesity causes strain on your heart, he's not obese, he's overweight at worse. Plenty of rich people are overweight, do you actually think its soley a money issue? That seems a bit ignorant as well as prejudice for pointing it out.
Finally, you called him a complete c*** for all of this which is just so over the top.

How do you define success Godot? Because by any measurement he probably is the most successful current British Comedian.
As for being fat that is just stupid. Weight is a serious issue people struggle with, hes not harming others like smokers do and before you bang on about the NHS hes probably privately insured plus hes about forty. Do you think its easy to lose weight at that age or any age?

Just to embarrass myself by the amount of Gervais knowledge I have: he does jog regularly, and his favourite food is crap like fishfingers so there's no chef necessary.
Ooh, *I* could be his chef! I can do fishfingers.

Oh, now you're just boasting...

Actually Gervais IS obese. Gervais has enough money to eat the very best food. Something that you can't do. Something in fact that only about 4% of the population of this country can do. I'm not talking about Tesco Finest, by the way. Reputedly he enjoys MacDonalds'. Being a multi-millionaire makes it easy to not be fat - or as easy as that can be. It's not ignorant or 'prejudice'(d) to point out that Gervais has made a choice not to exercise or eat healthily - it tells us something about him.
In case you didn't read jim Shelly's article, here's the bit that inspired my post.
"He opened with a lame remark about the show's eco-conscious stars flying in by private jet - an irony already commented on by that acclaimed comic genius Simon Le Bon. Then it was a case of he doth protest too much, as he insisted he'd done Live Earth as a favour to Spinal Tap creators "Christopher" (Guest) and "Rob" (Reiner), and that he couldn't say no to the Diana concert because he'd been asked personally - by Wills and Harry.
And with that, Gervais and David Brent, whose capacity for ingratiating, excruciating embarrassment he made famous, finally became indistinguishable."
My post reflected my immediate disgust at that embarrassment, and should be understood in that context. I have praised gervais elsewhere.
He's chubby, not obese. You can be fit and fat y'know. As many scary Olympic shotputters have proven.
This thread has got ridiculous now!
Check out the Seona Dancing vids to see what he 'should' look like.
He was in his 20s in that video. This preoccupation on his size does not reflect well on you. Rich people can do alot of things and choose not to why are you deliberating focusing on his size? Do you think fat people are deliberatly that size? Do you think that they are just lazy because they don't lose weight? What is your problem?

That is what you pointed out and that is an ignorant statement to make. As i said he's not obese and has the choice to be overweight or not just like many people. He might have psychological issues too and his age also makes it harder. How are you qualified to make such a remark?
The fact that you are saying a millionnaire shouldn't be overweight is both ignorant and prejudice as you are saying money is all thats needed to solve being fat (ignorance) and also that being overweight (not obese) contributes to him being a c*** or someone you don't like (prejudice). This is what you said before.
PS - what can be better than Tesco Finest?

I don't think this whole thread has put him in a good light, do you?

The Tesco 'extra special' that only business men access by pressing a button behind the fat-free milk display in all Tesco shops ... but shh! It's a secret.
It's where Prunella Scales hides out.
I don't think this thread should be closed, but really, discussing his weight, come on now.
