I just find it tired that the minority who like something get called pretentious and hipsters and if the majority like something they get accused of herd mentality and being incapable of original thinking. I'm all for belittling others tastes, just not when it's me

As has been said, modern art seems to come down to front and contacts; that and the perpetual fear of the cognoscenti of being outside of the cognoscenti which gives then a unique faculty for appreciating the Emperor's wardrobe. The latter point at least also seems to apply to Mr. Fielding.
The critics certainly need intellectually dim artists producing work of such loose meaning that it can be spun in any direction. The explanation for some sniping notices on the current Hockney show is that he doesn't need their puff or waffle - his work speaks for itself.
In the case of Noel, even if I don't laugh at something of his I still enjoy it because I'm primarily a visual person.

There is always the option, for those who seem to think everything is rubbish, to write something better themselves instead of constantly whingeing on the internet. If you put the time, effort and word count, that you do on here, into writing scripts you could have a dozen comedies under your belts now.
