Wishlisting

Does anyone here do the whole online wish list thing? Does your family or friends use them to buy you stuff or do you just use it to keep track of stuff you like? Do you ever nose at other peoples wishlists?

I'm just curious because thanks to another forum, I have started using them regularly and they do come in useful for me.

To be honest if I actually had a project like a holiday or something I'd just ask for the money.
Having a list of precious things on line people can buy for you seems a bit, I dunno avaricious or just juvenile. And not far off worshipping crap. Besides having a list online including who contributed what, gah that's a bit like asking who loves you the most.

As you can imagine I don't do wishlists.

But good luck with yours.

Well the main reason I have them is I now do a lot of online penpal/parcel swapping and you are normally required to have them, not to force people to get that stuff but mainly so people can see your taste and insure they send you something you will like. I actually find it hard to add stuff as I am hopeless at asking for things. I normally just ask for bubble bars at Christmas which annoys the hell out of my friends who want to shake me.

Most online lists don't actually reveal stuff like who bought what and when so I can't actually see how it's a competition. I guess they are more useful for weddings and baby showers than just individuals though.

What I don't get are people who make the lists and post them on everything in the hope that perfect strangers will buy them stuff for the sake of it. How does that work?

But I like to see other peoples because I'm nosy and sometimes you find something you like yourself.

Well a friend doing a PHD, with a good job is just flat out asking for money on her birthday invitations to contribute to her studies.
And this year I'll probably do the same for mine.

To have a need and not express it, always seemed arrogant and untrusting to me.

Though for weddings I suppose it makes sense.

As for strangers. Well for some guys it's a fetish.

As Sooty says wishlists are a further indication of society's decline into x-factor style self obsession and label frottage.

In my day you'd get a f**king book token and like it.

Am not sure what this bit means. Are you saying it's arrogant not to ask for for things?

I actually miss the days of vouchers and gift cards. I used to love to get those. I think most people would actually prefer them.

Your local hoes took tokens!

I remember John Menzies or WH Smiths tokens being the bollox.

Now you get Amazon tokens.

I once got a boots token, is that like being called a pooftah>

Well they sell sandwiches so you could go nuts and have a meal deal!

Not to specifically ask but you know at gift giving times. Too stay quiet and get a load of tat when you could be getting help with something that really matters...

Boots sandwiches are the worst. Why a chemist make good sandwiches? Do I buy pile ointment at Greggs?

It was years ago.

I can never think though. There have been times I have asked for things I needed in the past - Books when I was a student and stuff but to be honest, I don't really need anything.

And FYI Boots sandwiches are awesome.

Also stop shoving sausage rolls up your bum, they won't help your piles.

No they're not they're made in a factory in Wales by embittered ex miners.

Aah the internet, did even Tomorrow's World predict arguing about sandwiches at 7am?

LOL!

I thought that it was pot noodle that was made by the miners.

Boots Sandwiches are made all by hand out of sunbeams, rainbows, and 3 month old mayo.

A remarkable amount of industrial food is made in Wales. Hospitals and day centres get 6 months of dinners in one go.

I worked briefly withone day centre where you had to pick your dinners 3 months in advance. And they'd assemble them in Swansea.

I never understood why anyone would prefer a token to cash.

Everyone prefers cash, I guess the sentiment was "buy yourself something nice"
