Muhammad Ali

Perhaps the Greatest Boxer of all time recently turned 70.
It's been interesting to see a few of the recent documentaries, and to see the magic of a true superstar, in and out of the ring.

A draft dodging, Muslim who punched people in the head for a living or a true champion, family man and humanitarian?

Personally, I think he's ace.

However, after choosing rich and famous, Michael J. Fox probably regretted telling the genie, 'I want to be just like Muhammad Ali' as his third wish.

I thought this thread was going to say he'd died.
My dad met him on a plane once. [/rubbish claim to fame]

Kewl!

Today I brought up the subject of Muhammad Ali while drinking beer with the neighbors and wondered aloud about how things might have transpired had he been a young, brash Muslim champion in the 2001 era. Lots of different opinions but we all agreed that he was a worthy champion.

Aparently his trainer wrote most of his jokes

Great man, and the When We Were Kings documentary is awesome. Best (and indeed only) sport documentary I've ever seen.

I think his politics were questionable (meetings with the Ku Klux Klan) and his treatment of Joe Frasier awful. However how much Ali how much puppetry who knows? But he was a hell of a boxer and his treatment after the Atlanta Olympics was unbelievable.
