Felix & Murdo

No thread for this; did anyone else catch Armstrong & Miller's Simon Nye scripted sitcom pilot?

It was old fashioned in a very good way, and was exactly the sort of show you would expect Armstrong And Miller to make; twenty years ago it would probably have been pitched with Fry and Laurie attached.

No, not every joke hit home, a fair bit didn't, but I enjoyed it and would look forward to any series that must surely be under consideration. Channel 4 does need a new, silly studio sitcom now The IT Crowd is on the way out, this one for me showed promise.

Although I may have laughed two or three times, I thought it was poor overall. I enjoyed their old series highlights, shown after, much more. Why have these series never been released (to my knowledge)?

Well put. I was expecting something slightly more unhinged and fast-paced from the descriptions that were publicised, but it was still a very enjoyable half-hour of TV. Not everything worked, as you say, but then it was a pilot, so that's to be expected. It showed more than enough potential to deserve to go to series, IMO.

It certainly had its moments but it was a bit too slack and baggy for my liking. I'd dearly love to see an Armstrong and Miller sitcom but I don't think this did them justice.

I rather liked it. It reminded me a bit of the Mighty Boosh, but I haven't figured out why, yet.

Maybe because the outdoor scenes were shot indoors, or something...

slack and baggy

It was just a pilot, so if it goes further they should be able to work on what worked and didn't.

In theory. Alas, an awful lot of series just repeat the sins of the pilot with no apparent learning whatsoever. See Campus for further details.

Think positive, Chip!

Pf! Positivity's for losers.

I only lasted a few minutes. I'm with chip' I'd like to see a good A&M sitcom but this ain't it.

Bits of it were quite amusing but as a whole it didn't quite work for me.

The rating was pretty dire, just over 650,000, probably C4's lowest in a pre-11pm slot for a while. Can't see a series being made.

I don't rate Simon Nye and the script for this wasn't very good. I laughed once, at the 'f**k off' sampler.

It felt like a rip off of the Chap Olympiad but less funny. I love Armstrong and Miller incidentally.

I thought it was very lame. Pilots should be stuffed with ideas which can be developed for a series, but I didn't see much in this one. Compare F&M with something like "Beast" which was ages ago and it looks like a decline in sharpness.

And I love Armstrong and Miller and wanted it to be good.

More of a plummet than a decline.

The script was full of lazy comic cliches and undergrad smut, and the performances were more sketch show than sitcom.

I bloody loved Beast.
