Okay, okay, okay. I know I said I would have done my first stand-up by now. I should've also put up some shelves, decorated the spare room and fixed a leaking faucet. I haven't done any. However, I did find time to do another practice routine.
Another YouTube practice
Some of the gags are good. Problem is: your delivery is flat. There should be a slight emphasis on punchlines and key words. Do this and the routine will come to life a bit more.
Thanks Don. I have to agree with you. There is a flatness about it. Perhaps I can change that when doing it 'for real'. As for the emphasis, I see your point. Thanks for feedback.
Too soft for me to hear
And stop fart arsing around and do an open mike gig, frankly you're doing the equivalent of playing GTA to pass your driving test.
Dude. You might be right about the "live" factor. If that's the case, you've clearly well rehearsed, so why not come and give it a go at Durham (Fighting Cocks) 15 December?
Small and forgiving crowd. Easy to find and really good practice for your first time.
Paul
Go for it Benchy, fail in Durham and whose gonna know?
Seriously you'll be amazed how much you'll gin from the experience.
To be honest, Sooty, I thought I was on the North East Comedy Forum which is why I invited Parky to Durham.
Still, sound like he's from Yorkshire, and Im having to travel to fecking Leeds at Carpe Diem next week to do a 10 minute slot, including a bleeding song. Thats how it works...
Such is the price of pursuing something you love, even if you also hate it haha.
Paul
I don't mind travelling for a fun gig.
I live down south but I'm God's country a surprising amount of the time.
Maybe a bit more practice will improve things. I tend to accumulate the gags, make the script, have a run through and then record it. As soon as a local open mic comes up, I'm going for it.
Where dyu live dude?
I only ask coz I have had to sign up for my open mic slots literally months in advance in my local area (North East)
Maybe theres more choice where you are, but in my experience, you really really have to be pro-active and search these opportunities out.
As yet, I havent had any open slots drop into my lap, put it that way. lol
Good luck anyway fella
Paul
Maybe I have been a bit idle. I'll trawl the net today, then ring up the nearest places tomorrow and hopefully get a spot in the new year.
Can't promise the same on that faucet.
Just a quick piece of advice, don't just wait for your open spots, if you live within reasonable distance of some comedy clubs go along, chat to the promoter and see if they'll put you on for a quick 5 mins, some will, some won't, but comedy is all about networking.
Get your face known, be prepared to step in for someone who's dropped out at the last minute. Opportunities won't just come to you, you have to be prepared to go out and get them.
