Discussions on the technique are unhelpful to say the least.

Lol, and your puns and jokes at his expense earlier in the thread are helpful, I suppose!

Hey my puns never killed anyone!

Well except for Bob Carolgees, but I prefer not to talk about that...

Poor Spit.

He's doing a university tour with Emu.

The pun was actually about his specialised fetish film "Split the Dog"

Gutted! I can't truly believe it. He was a top bloke as far as I was concerned and was leading Wales on a real comeback. His family must be bloody devastated.

I heard he'd died hours ago, but I didn't know he'd hanged himself!

Truly shocking news.
I shudder to think of what drove him to take his own life.

RIP Gary

Somewhere along life's way I'm sure I've heard it said that hanging is a most aggressive way to commit suicide - that is, aggressive towards those who are left behind.

Not sure about that, frankly. One might argue that it's actually the most aggressive/hateful thing one can do to oneself. On a purely practical level, it's a highly reiiable method unlike, say, pills.

And on that morbid note...

Potentially quite slow and painful

thats assuming it wasn't a DW

Yes. Maybe I got that wrong - it was a long time ago when I knew of somebody who did it. If suicide is inward turned aggression, I suppose that's an even more aggressive way of doing it.

Not so sure about that, suffocation always runs the risk of surviving with brain damage.

I think the point about hanging could be that it is the felon's death; choosing that method is perhaps a comment on your perception of yourself.

No so sure about that, I've seen (sadly) plenty of successful suicides by hanging, never seen someone surviving such an attempt, incurring brain damage.

The reason I say it, is that a friend of mine's son-in-law did himself that way; his wife succeeded in cutting him down, but after a fortnight they had to take a decision to turn off life support; I assumed brain damage, but you don't like to ask too many questions. Isn't damage always a risk if the brain is deprived of oxygen?

This is the most depressing thread ever.
