What's the most useful thing you learnt at school Page 4
At my primary school, there was one of those teachers who insisted on being addressed as 'Ms'. If a boy misbehaved, it was not uncommon for her to make the poor kid stand on a desk, with his trousers and pants pulled down around his ankles, for the rest of the lesson.
She'd probably be sacked now, but this was in the late 70s/early 80s, so no doubt she was considered as striking a blow for the sisterhood.
AND pants?
I think that's a paedo in any decade.
My impression at the time was that Ms didn't very much like the male of the species in any regard, least of all sexually. Horrible woman.
Actually, probably only in the last 3 or 4, I'd reckon. It isn't right tho. If I were the boy's father I'd be marching down to school, and pulling HER pants down. She wouldn't have to stand on the desk tho, just bend over it slightly. Ahem, is it just me, or is it getting hot in here?
Pythagoras' "Other" Theorem.
I've never been to any other country that has pub quizzes, which must say something about the amount of useless but quite interesting stuff we learn at school.
Cripes!
Nothing that I can think of really.

Most of it is what we've learned out of school.
Been thinking about this one for a while and I'm with Chappers. I don't think I did learn anything useful at school. I could read before I went to school and have not so fond memories of being hauled up in front of the head to expalin why I was taking school books home and my sainted mother was told to stop me reading so much because I was too far ahead of the rest of the class. (How times changes.) I learnt basic maths and percentages working in the family business and trying to do to get to grips with VAT.
If there was one things that school taught me it was probably that there are the chosen ones and then there are the rest. And it doesn't matter what you do, if you aren't sprinkled with that touch of stardust, then you might as well not bother because teachers don't like having the established order upset. It's tough being a rebel.
Someone, I forget who, said the reason children dislike school is because if gets in the way of their education.
It really is astonishing how little we learn there.
To be fair, all the foreign language I know I learned as a kid at school. I cannot get a word of it to stick now as an adult. So, although I only know a bit of French, without having been taught it at school I'd know bugger all.

We are led to believe that they are there to educate children, but I believe the primary purpose of a school is to encourage kids to conform. A state only has use for those who choose to conform to its plans.
I don't think that's what inspires most teachers to get into the career though.

Of course not, they just like bossing kids around.
