Yes, in school maths was always taught in the abstract, the purpose of sines, cosines, tangents et al was never explained. I am still unsure of the point of matrices.
What's the most useful thing you learnt at school Page 3
Something to do with Keanu.
I do recall that I progressively lost interest in them...
What use are Venn diagrams? You get to see a lot of intersecting circles, and presumably you can use that informaion for something. I did A level maths, and Bsc Engineering, but never saw them again. Any ideas, anyone?
Funny you should say that. I thought they were so obvious I couldn't see the point.

I remember our bloody Maths teacher kept trying to teach us about fractals, which I found endlessly repetitive...
That you really didn't need to go at all, to be educated. You can educate yourself to a much better level, if you have the will.
Also, possibly of more use, that some adults don't like children too much and if they have a role of power over children, it very often corrupts them and brings out their inner dictator.
And thirdly, there is a nauseatingly unfair gender bias, from female teacher to female pupil, especially if both are white middle class. This is why girls do better in education than boys, they've been uberdeveloped by a legion of female nazis, while the boys were ingored.

(I had to look it up.)

Being sent to that convent school really left some mental scars didn't it?

..as opposed to the nauseatingly unfair gender bias in the outside world?
