My HE teacher was TERRIFYING. She was tiny and white haired and just pure evil. But as soon as we got to year 11 she was nice as anything to us, and we realised it had all been an act to keep the younger kids in line.
It totally worked.

No. The ones I knew were truly thick. Remember my younger son's teacher telling us he was 'working at his own level'. Well who the Hell's level would he work at?

Breasts are at the front.

When you're snogging, the bony bits are shoulder blades.

School drummed into me what I was good at and what I was not. I have spent the rest of my life trying to unlearn this.

School is just where we go to have labels hung on us.

I learned all about ehe perils of being a teeneage mum AFTER I was a teenage mum. That really was a useful thing to learn! Teary

I don't think I learned anything useful in high school, I learned the useful stuff in primary school, reading, (w)riting, (a )rithmetic.

I hated HE as well and agree it should be banned.

This thread reminded me of part of Barry Humphries' old entry in Who's Who:

Self-educated, attended Melbourne Grammar School.

School taught me just how little grades matter in the real world.

Tort me how tu spel.

"Show me the man who has enjoyed his schooldays and I will show you a bully and a bore." Robert Morley.

"real world" = "telesales office"

Tim! :O

To be nice. Because they're always be people who won't, so you might as well try to redress that imbalance a bit.

To only own up to teachers who would let you off for your honesty.

Sorry to be boring but transposition of formulae was drummed into me until it stuck
I actually said 'what use will it ever be in the real world'

Me being a sparky, I have used it all my working life. :)

I couldn't see the life of me why I had to learn binary in Maths, until I left school and became an electronics technician.
