Life's Too Shit

INT. OFFICE - DAY

RICKY GERVAIS AND STEPHEN MERCHANT ARE DISCUSSING THEIR NEW PROJECT

STEPHEN:
It has to be something new, something fresh...

RICKY:
Let me stop you there. The Office was a success because of the mock-doc formula and the David Brent character. Extras was a success because of the megastar cameos. We combine the two.

RICKY LOCKS HIS FINGERS TOGETHER

RICKY:
Synergy.

STEPHEN:
The Brent character's played out.

RICKY:
We freshen it up by making the Brent character a mong.

STEPHEN:
Down's Syndrome?

RICKY:
No a dwarf.

STEPHEN:
'Mong' doesn't mean dwarf.

RICKY:
It means whatever I say it means. I'm Ricky Gervais!

STEPHEN:
OK, a dwarf Brent in a mock-doc with superstar extras.

RICKY:
Forget superstars, I'm talking megastars.

STEPHEN:
Who?

RICKY:
I'm thinking Ricky Gervais.

:D much better than the programme

Top notch weapons grade minimalist genius bit of scriptage

get it to NR or TS if no where else

Thanks very much chaps :)

Here's an example of something I did a while ago that proves I'm ahead of my time... ;)

Doesn't seem catty to me.

I like Gervais. I also like this sketch - nice one. Send it to Newsrevue and the Treason Show like Sootyj said.

Thanks everyone. I've fired it off; fingers crossed.

That's very good (and probably very accurate)!

A little follow up:

A TELEPHONE INTERVIEW BETWEEN A JOURNALIST (BILL HACKS) AND RICKY GERVAIS

RICKY:
I appreciate the call Bill; I'm grateful for the opportunity to speak out about the misconceptions people have about Life's Too Short.

BILL:
No problem. Let's start with the scene I found particularly uncomfortable to watch, the one where Johnny Depp forces Warwick Davis to dance.

RICKY:
You see, you're missing the point, it's not funny because it's a dwarf dancing, you have to go deeper.

BILL:
How deep?

RICKY:
The comedy derives from the fact he's having to do this for cash, it's asking uncomfortable questions about the nature of capitalism.

BILL:
I can see that now, that's insightful. What about the scene where Warwick is trying to climb up the book shelf? Are we supposed to be laughing at the fact his height makes this difficult for him?

RICKY:
No, that was never supposed to be an issue, and frankly I'm insulted that you're taking that scene at face value. Quite clearly it's a metaphor for the recession.

BILL:
I get it. We need to take things one step at a time. What about the dwarf bowling?

RICKY:
I don't remember that? Oh you mean the scene which symbolises the strength of the human spirit. We can knock down any obstacles that block our way!

BILL:
That's inspiring. Last question, why are you putting a dwarf in a bin.

RICKY:
Come on Bill. Refuse collection has gone from every week to every fortnight. Someone has to speak out.

BILL:
Thanks Ricky.

First one is great. Second one is good.

That'll do for me, cheers Leev :)

Enjoyed both :)

I'm Gervais's biggest fan but those two sketches are right on the money! IT'S FUNNY BECAUSE IT'S TRUE!

Love the first sketch.

FWIW, I am a MASSIVE RG&SM fan. HUGE. Got all the DVDs and everything. But LTS is just.. meh. So far, it's made me laugh a few times, but it's disturbing and embarrassing how Davis is just doing a Brent impression. Overall it's not that funny.
