Party Down

I couldn't find a thread for this elsewhere (and I'm assuming US sitcom is divided out from UK sitcom here?). Has anyone else watched Party Down? It is the current favourite in our household.

We've just watched all of series 1 and are getting through series 2 - last night we watched the Funeral epsisode which is incredibly funny, brilliant writing, perfect casting, and the lightest of touch in the direction - thanks to Virgin Media cable.

If you get Virgin media cable, go to TV On Demand Comedy and you'll find series 1 & 2. Trust me you won't regret it.

As far as I know it's not had a "proper channel" screening over here. Unless anyone knows otherwise?

Kev F The Sitcom Trials

PS: Continuing the Sitcom vs Comedy Drama debate (which is really only relevant when you're wondering which thread of a Forum you'll find s show listed under) I watched last night's Party Down immediately after last night's Fresh Meat. Both were laughter-track free shows made on film that featured a central ensemble of 6 characters and made me laugh out loud, and I'd happily call them both situation comedies. So is the Comedy Drama category based purely on the length of the episode? (FM is 50 mins, PD is 25). In which case does Only Fools And Horses cross from sitcom to comedy drama halfway through its run?

I just got the first season on DVD; I'm only a couple of episodes in, but it's really great so far. Such a good idea for a show too, a great 'trap'. Pity it only went for two seasons.

Love this show, though it took me a while to warm up to. They've been talking about putting out a Party Down movie since Starz cancelled it but it's a few steps behind Arrested Development in actually being made.

My season 2 DVD has arrived. Love this show. People should seek it out.

Currently watching season 2. Good Christ it's a great, GREAT show. I imagine about 14 people over here have seen it, you must rectify this immediately, it will very quickly be one of your favourite sitcoms.

Love it. Dug the PD mini-reunion on the last season of Childrens' Hospital, too.

Just watched the last episode. Was good. Am now sad there's no more.

Film next year!

Apparently so, which is good news; though I'd much prefer another TV run.

I watched the second series on Virgin and I almost gave up on it after 2 episodes, but I stuck with it and thought it was great by the end. Weird how that happens.

First season arriving on DVD anytime now :)

Oh and I want to party with the Gute.

Oh, you watched the second series first?! No wonder you might not have been onboard straight away; it's one of those shows that develops it's characters and their stories week to week, so not as easy to jump in halfway through and be onboard straight away. For instance, you would have met Ron when he was a druggy loser, rather than head of his team, and then witness his downfall.

Film to shoot this year??

I think Jackal Onassis Backstage Party is probably my favourite episode. The premise and the way it all comes together at the end is fantastic.

This really was a great show. I caught it a few months ago. Now considering watching it again.

Season 1 gets a UK release on April 2nd, which means more people can find themselves weirdly attracted to Lizzy Caplan.
